Good news. Anyone know what kind of draft picks we gave up for him?
This obviously bolsters our depth and if he can play like he did when he led the league in sacks, then we've got ourselves a legit speed rusher. I'm still hoping Crable come through though. I think we solidfied our ILBs for the future with Mayo and Guyton, now if Crable develops, then that would be amazing to have three of our LBs for the future come out in one draft class.
Back to the subject at hand, I feel better with Burgess on board. Can't wait to see what he can do for us.

I just posted in the other Burgess thread that Ian Rapaport at the Herald is reporting it is a 3rd and 4th in 2010 with the 4th becoming conditional to a 5th should Ne acquire a pick in that round (we don't have one as of now). Says this is per Borges' contacts.
Mayo is better as the MLB than Bruschi would be. Also, you'd be relegating Warren to the bench and he's one of the best players on your defense behind Seymour, Wilfork and Mayo.
This team is still built for the 3-4, though BB could surprise people and throw a jumbo 4-3 out there that looks like this: Green/Wright, Warren, Wilfork, Seymour. Pushing Thomas back to OLB with Mayo in the middle and Guyton on the other side. If it happens, it would probably be short yardage/goal line situations.
You really should remember to say "Amen" after your prayers.

If the Pats were going for a 'jumbo' 4-3, wouldn't putting both Wilfork and Brace in the middle make more sense?

Can somebody tell me the salary cap implications of this trade?
From what I have read Burgess was already paid a $1.5 million roster bonus by the Raiders, and is due a $2 million salary this year. So if you see somewhere that Burgess had a $3.5 million cap with the Raiders, ignore that; his cap number with the Pats will be $2 million.
In terms of how it affects the Pats cap, he would be taking the place of somebody making about 350k or 500k (depending on how the final roster ends up), so he increases the Pats cap by about $1.5 million.
“I think he can rush the passer. He’s had a lot of production. He’s primarily rushed off the left side. Normally you see more pass-rush production off the right side but he has been able to produce quite a bit from the left side. Those are some of the things that are unique to him. I’m not saying that’s exactly what is going to happen with us. I don’t know. We’ll have to wait and see how all that turns out.”
