I like the moves they have been making.

I have no idea what Reese's role in them is, what BB's role in them is, and what Caserio's role is. I suspect that no one outside the organization does.

Well, Pioli is at the 1999-2000 stage, after all.

The obvious guess at the time of the Reese hiring was that Casario would focus more on personnel decisions (he's been working w/ BB for while), while Reese would focus more on negotiation details (Pioli used to handle that stuff personally, so the guys under him may not have had a lot of experience, whereas Reese has been doing that kind of thing for a while).

This current regime is all Belichick. Everyone else are just parts of the machine, useful but replaceable without missing a beat. Belichick would have been dominant with any other team he took over (that didn't have a horrible owner). However, I'm also pretty sure Kraft would have continued to be successful without Belichick as well.

Bingo.

Every good chairman has a good CEO. Every good CEO has a good management team. Every good mgt team has good dept. managers. Every good manager has good employees.

That is the NEP.

The Ninkovich, Walter and now Burgess signings have Floyd Reese written all over them.

We're a veritable swiss watch - precision in action.

How do those have Floyd Reese and not Nick Caserio written on them? Or, for that matter, how can you say that they don't have the remnants of the work that Scott Pioli and Tom Dimitroff since they ran the scouting staff for quite some time.

I don't think we'll start seeing the work of Caserio and Reese for another 2 years, to be honest. Especially since the Pats are always looking 1-2 years ahead when it comes to their scouting.

Nice Observation. And the draft signees went and are going smoothly, except for Ty McKenzie...

It's not even a question of "smoothly," it's simply a question of necessity. Since he's unlikely to play a down this season , there's been absolutely no need to sign him yet.

I think the biggest strength of our roster is the types of players that seek to come here and will settle for a little less than they could have gotten somewhere else. The culture and strong locker room that have been cultivated here are starting to really blossom. On paper, this is easily the most talented Patriots team I've ever seen. Pray for no injuries, sit back and enjoy the ride, it's gonna be a helluva 2009 season!

I am, and have been, very pleased with Reese. With the most recent trade, we've offered up a 3rd and conditional 4th to the Raiders for Burgess (conditional because, if we get a 5th, we can give it to them instead of a 4th). I would say that looks to be a pretty solid trade should Burgess come in and assume the OLB role on the other side of AD, which it looks like he will. Also throw in the offseason boost of the secondary and the addition of a second deep threat on the other side of Randy Moss, all at relatively cheap prices and I think Reese comes out of this looking like a genius if those moves work out. I, personally, have a lot of faith in this secondary going into next year. Judging by how they (especially Bodden and Butler) are looking in TC, that faith seems to be well placed.

However, don't write off Pioli over in KC either. As someone else mentioned, he's in the early stages of rebuilding. He gathered what at first glance seems to be a pretty good coaching staff then locked up his franchise quarterback for a relative steal (a 2nd rounder), and finally traded away a tight end on the downside of his career for a 2nd round pick next year. Plus, by season's end, I think Pioli will do some more maneuvering with that roster and lock up additional picks in order to build his team.
