There are two kinds of posters on this, and other message boards.

One is reflective about what they are going to say, and question their own thinking and feeling prior to expressing themselves. Like the Quakers do at a meeting: think and carefully before you speak, and be very selective about what you say, because the act of speaking uses a shared resource and takes up space that someone else would have used. Precision, relevance, and the quality of group conversation are valued.

The other kind of poster sees the Board as a place for spontaneous expression, a limitless e-space where venting and arguing is entertaining. Creative expression and debating skills are valued. Winning a point brings a sense of personal satisfaction.

The first kind of poster resents the second kind, and while protesting their behavior, gets drawn into the debates on which the second kind thrives.

If you are the first kind, the only way you get what you want it by doing what you do well: speak infrequently, never in haste, and don't argue.

4.7 Forty Yard Dash
4.19 Short Shuttle
6.87 Three Cone
32 ½ Vertical
9 ft 11 in. Broad Jump
15 Power Lifts

Pierre Woods Pro Day can be summed up in one word; outstanding. His short shuttle and three cone are optimum for the outside linebacker position.

I'll ignore the fact that that's a blatant backtrack since you've finally figured out that I disproved your entire premise with nothing but objective facts, and

to that. You guys need to stop worrying so much and enjoy the ride a little- the defense has room to improve, certainly, but it's not in nearly as bad shape as a lot of you seem to think.

No, there is just no point in arguing anymore. I said what I feel and I'm sticking to it. I'm not back tracking. I respect your opinion, but there is only so many times we can post the same argument. If we keep arguing, this thread will never end. If indeed Woods wins the starting job, I'm willing to give him a chance because their isn't a damn thing I can do about it. What's fun about posting on message boards is expressing your opinion on what you would do if you were running the team. I never wanted to prove anybody wrong because only the players will be able to do that. We will see in '09.

Pretty insightful post. Problem is your conclusion is tantemount to the best posters surrendering the board to its worst. We see cycles of that here periodically and it fails to make this place better. It merely makes it easier for others to make this board more like the ones most supposedly came here to avoid.

Agreed- for the individual, it's probably easier and cleaner, but it pretty much kills the community. IMO there's a message board lifecycle that I've seen run through a couple times, and it basically starts with enthusiastic posters and intelligent conversation, then as its reputation spreads more people come, and then you start getting trolls and jerks (lots of overlap, but not necessarily the same thing), then they drag down the level of discourse by turning the good posters into jerks as it all just becomes a series of flame wars, then the good posters get fed up with the atmosphere and leave. They're like viruses.
