I do, but I always figured that it was because Christians are pretty clearly instructed by scripture to spread the word. I find it pretty annoying, most of the time, but understand that it's coming from good intentions and don't really let it bother me. I know plenty of atheists that are just as bad, and they don't even have anything commanding them to be :P
Spreading the word isn't getting on a soapbox, as a specific thing. How some go about spreading that word can be. I think that's where a lot of misunderstanding comes in, because some people view the very way others go about their lives as "preaching", especially if they dare to voice their opinion in the context of a conversation. Hell, we can see that here almost every time a thread about marijuana comes up. In fact, there's quite a list of subjects sure to garner attacks and insults if you dare to voice opinions other than "I agree 100%!" on most message boards today, and it's not limited to any one political or religious ideology.

Spreading the word and trying to convince others to adopt your religious ideology is pretty much the definition of getting on a soapbox. All that really matters is how much you let it bother you.
And yes, some of the preachiest people I know get on their soapbox about how unjust marijuana laws are (I agree with them, but that's beside the point). People pick strange **** to get on their soapbox about, and religion is one of the most common.
At no point on this thread did anyone even suggest that preachiness was limited to one political or religious ideology, so I really don't get why you're harping on that.

Given that one can spread the word by simple words or deeds rather than preaching and giving speeches, I'm sorry, but your simply not accurate here.

People will preach about pretty much anything, given the right circumstances. Religion is no more common than any other reason, particularly in modern society.

Probably because I posted in direct response to someone who mentioned religion and nothing else....

Nothing that you said actually refuted any of my points, and I'm not going to start quoting passages out of scripture mandating that followers should go and teach the word of Christ to non-believers. I'd be happy to give you a list of them, though.
The post that you originally quoted, BTW, said this:

Where, in that post, does he say that religion is the only thing that people preach about? I'm awfully sure that he doesn't say that. In fact, I'm awfully sure that nobody said that, at any point in this thread. Face it, you were caught making a straw-man argument. Rather than continuing to argue against a point that nobody made, how about you get up to speed?

And there are MANY religous people that shove their beliefs down ALL others...wait...THAT is what it is like in a LOT of the country.....in fact most. TGFM...
Yes I agree I especially detest those religious nuts, the intolerant, "Liberal", Socialist, Utopian, true-believers, who want the over powering State to rule over everyones lives, as they dream of 1984!

Really??? I guess you read a different version of 1984...Where war is peace and truths are lies... sounds more like the past 8 years...Who has ripped constitutional rights away quickly with warrantless wiretaps, broken the Geneva convention with war crimes and the like?? Who had memos that they wanted to do away with Congress..if they chose??

The only Geneva Conventions broken was to not enfoerce them. There is was no need for Gitmo at all. Everyone of the detainess is guilty of at least Two Capital Crimes under the Generva convention. Being on a battlefierld out of uniform isw a capital crime. But more important targeting Civilians is a Genva convention Law calling for Summary Executiion. Every one of the detainess should have been shot long ago.
