Who cares what Peter King thinks? He obviously has no clue since he feels James Sanders is irreplacable. Sanders is a mediocre player, and more of a rotation guy than a bonafide starter on a championship caliber team.

Generally, not many, but I wouldn't be surprised to see 8 or 9. I think we're gonna have a big shakeup, and a lot of backup guys are gonna lose their jobs.

The 4 2nd rounders and 2 third rounders are guaranteed to make the team unless they show up and look absolutely terrible.

I think a lot of the backup lineman are going to be gone, replaced with younger guys with more upside. Yates and Britt, I'm looking at you.

I think Ingram makes the team as the long snapper. I wouldn't be surprised to see Hochstein as the official FB to make some roster space for another OLineman.

A few things:

1.) If was well publicized that the Pats looked to get into the top 10 (King reported it and may be feeling burned because his scoop didn't coem true), but either they couldn't, the player they were targetting were gone, or they weren't trying that hard. All the other reports said the Pats didn't like the quality of players in the late first round. He told the NFL Network that he didn't like the draft. So why wouldn't he trade down.
2.) My guess is that Patrick Chung is starting over Sanders by the end of the year. I don't remember who said it, but someone on the TV this weekend said he could be the next Troy Polumalu. Granted that is setting high expectations, but I don't think the Pats feel that James Sanders is the guy they want starting at SS for the next 5 years and they always like to have three solid safeties.
3.) Considering how both ESPN and the NFL Network seemed to be gushing over the Patriots picks and even scanning the message boards of our league competitor's site were praising most of the Pats' second round picks, I really doubt the picks were met with shrugs around the league.

I think King was expecting the Pats to make a huge splash in this draft by trading into the top 10 and possibly trading into the first round for a second time. When the Pats clearly showed they weren't thrilled with this draft, I think King was shocked. That is the only thing I can think of because he seems to mischaracterize several things.
One of my best friends has contended for years that sports reporters are nothing more than people just like all of us who are interested in the games, but they get paid to write their opinions. At one time I scoffed at that assessment. I no longer do, and Peter King is a prime example of why I no longer do.

To Peter King, I say the same thing I said to people who were pissing and moaning in the chat room on Saturday - "You really think you know more than the guy who won three Super Bowls in four years?"

King lost sight of who is actually in there at the positions...

Sanders and Spann cost them at least one game last year with his defense. Most big plays against the Patriots last year had either of them involved in some fasion. They need someone to come in with an immediate impact to get those guys back in line or else they find a new job elsewhere.

They are thin at cornerback, the market isn't there for corners this year. They need someone else to bolster the postion especially when they have only two guys with more than three seasons at the positon. If they cut somoene it will be Richardson but even then I doubt they do it.

They are clearly aged at linebacker and need guys who can come in to bolster them. Ruud, Redd, Guyton, and Woods are playing for their contracts with the team- any of them slip and they could be gone. Drafting guys who can come in to replace them is a good thing especially when most of the backups are UDAs.

I agree with you. I've said this about King before, so I'm not jumping him now because of an article. It's just that King is one of the worst writers in the business and always has been. Even when he praises the Patriots, he is so often wrong about the facts.

There are good folks at their professions, and King is not one of them, and never has been in my humble opinion.

The Patriots do not have alot of talent at the safety position. They had one player at safety with enough upside to some day be a Pro Bowler (Merriweather). Now they have two. Sanders will look better rotating in. The fact that he is 25 is NOT a reason not to draft another safety. Maybe King thinks the team is better off with two safeties close to 200 LBS each. Chung was 212 at the combine BEFORE entering an NFL weight lifting program. He'll probably play closer to 220.

Chung already looks like he's been on an NFL weight program. He is ripped.

It's amazing to me that anyone could think that having two safties on the roster is enough. Think how many defensive packages are used these days. Heck, there are entire games where a defense stays in nickle or dime. You sure better have a safety who is stout against the run in those packages or you'll get draw played to death.

I don't even think in terms of starters. I think in terms of a group of corners, a group of safeties. Lord knows, most of them are going to be starters at some point during a 19 game season.

I was in CT today listening to FAN and he was gushing about Sanchez.

As a supposed columnist.....i'm sure the Pat's draft was "UNINSPIRING".

The pats draft was filled with good players but nothing worth writing one of his over-sensationalized columns about.

To him....this guy is Brady...without the talent and accomplishments....playing in the largest media market in the US.

Now that's news baby....that's inspiration.

No offense to Peter.....Tyrone McKenzie is an inspiration......not some west coast douche bag who's eventually gonna get eaten alive by the NY media anyway.

I didn't read the whole thread, so sorry, if I repeat a reply.

So we were only going with two safeties? We traded Hobbs. Plus BB uses DBs in all sorts of ways. Plus, Meriweather and Sanders are small, Chungs a knock out artist.

Have another triple Frappucino tubby.
