Default Julian Edelman discussion thread

Never heard of this paper, but they have a few interesting tidbits on Edelman.

Quote:
Even after a record-setting career at KSU, Edelman had a difficult time finding an agent to represent him. He ended up signing with [Kent State head coach Doug] Martin’s agent, Don Yee, who also reps Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady.

Edelman probably won’t be a back-up to Brady in New England. The Patriots drafted Edelman believing he can follow in the footsteps of fellow former Flashes quarterback Joshua Cribbs and make the switch from college quarterback to pro wide receiver and kick-return specialist.
Kent State may not be well-known, but they've also produced Josh Cribbs and James Harrison.

Interesting that both Tom and this QB have the same agent. Don't ask me why but I find that fascinating for some reason! Also, not only is Kent State known for the players you mentioned, they are also known for having a former head coach who is now the DC of one of the NFL's north east teams... hint hint

I think part of drafting him was to have him play the wild cat role to help us prepare for it....Even if it is just in training camp.

I am sure they will try to find something for him and give him a fair chance to make the team but he can run the wild cat all camp long and get the team ready for it.

Possible, but I don't think the Pats need a special player to do that. They improved drastically against the wildcat the second time around. I think now that there's film on the Dolphins using it, it's going to become a LOT less effective this year.

Edelman is a poor man's Pat White. He's certainly worth a look see in round 7. Hopefully we'll find ways to use him in little wrinkle plays or perhaps flat out wildcat formations.

Speak of the devil though and there he is. The Dolphins added a guy who can really make the Wildcat thrive in Pat White. It's gonna be tougher to stop in 2009 with that guy in the middle of it.

Meh, it's still a college offense. It caught some teams by surprise in '08, but everyone will be ready for it in '09. I doubt the Dolphins have much success with it this year.

I hope you're right, but I think you're severely underestimating Pat White. This guy run roughshod over defenses at the college level and he has the kind of escapability and quickness that traditionally gives the Pats defense fits.

It would be kind of cool to have a "Slash" type player on the Pats.

As long as he never becomes a full time starting QB like the original "Slash"....

That paper writes quite a bit about area colleges, not just their sports teams.

Whenever I hear Kent State I think of hippies being mowed down after they got violent in their protests, man that was a trying time. Edelman looks fast in the tapes Ive seen of him. Not a Poor mans White at all, maybe even a better decision maker.
