Trade a fifth round pick for Kelsay (if the cap allows). Let him get healthy and play his heart out on his contract year. He signs a free agent deal with some other team and the Pats are looking at a compensatory pick in 2012.

Not for $4-5 million in 2009, no way. That is what he scheduled to make. Something like that.

The only ways he would be traded to the Pats would be if absolutely no one else wanted him or if the Pats wildly overpaid.

Teams never want to trade within their division.

And that fact right there is where this conversation should end. Why Kelsay would be traded inside his own division is insane and rare.

Most likely he'd be cut if he's that expensive and that injured. Wouldn't he?

Would you deal a 3rd or 4th for this guy?
Kelsay has only missed 2 games out of 96 during his career. And those 2 games were in 2007.

I could see Belichick sending a 4th round pick for him.. Especially if BB wants him to play the elephant opposite Thomas.

As for being able to play in space, I don't know. But then, McGinest hadn't played in space either prior to BB coming here in 2000. And he was able to transition over.

Kelsay's cap number, NOT his salary, is 5.6 million for 2009. That includes at least 2 million in signing bonus pro-ration. He also has other bonuses, roster or option - not sure which) that count for about 1.6 million. So, the Pats, at worst, would be looking at only 3.6 million for Kelsy against the cap. And it may not even be that much depending on whether they could get him to re-structure.
