I think it had to do more with Leahy. He publically said that unless Specter provided more evidence, the Senate would not get involved. Both Leahy and Specter are friends and I think Leahy told him to quitely let this one go away.
Leahy and Specter must be great friends, as Leahy was essentially a mute through the whole process, allowing his good friend Specter to harpoon the New England organization for the many months that is was doing the most harm. The time-line though, not by coincidence, has Spector becoming mute on the subject just after Sen. Kennedy illness, almost eliminating that it could be as the result of anything coming very late by the ineffective Leahy.

"The Patriots didn't have use of videotaping of the opponents sidelines last year and they didn't win the Super Bowl". Then he went on to say his investigation successfully put an end to the Patriots cheating and implied that their play on the field suggested it.
All the more reason to go out and completly decimate every team we play this season and do so in a very big way. I hope the coach releases the hounds and reigns down Patriot fire with no mercy.

I was watching the America's Game of the 2000 Ravens. Trent Dilfer left his playbook in the locker room during their regular season game against Tennesse, @Tennesse, and it was gone when he came back to the locker room after the game.
When the two teams met in the playoffs, Tennesse knew everything Dilfer was going to do before he did it. Why is no one beating down Jeff Fisher's door about playbookgate?

Simply because they weren't the hated Patriots.
There has been lots of allegations from various teams throughout the yrs, no one seemed to care back then, when it happened.
We were a victim of bad timing, circumstance, and winning--that's exactly it.
I know people hate this subject, but it is Patriots related. Stern asked him how his investigation of the New England Patriots was going and he replied "The Patriots didn't have use of videotaping of the opponents sidelines last year and they didn't win the Super Bowl". Then he went on to say his investigation successfully put an end to the Patriots cheating and implied that their play on the field suggested it.
Since Stern doesn't know a touchdown from a touchback and the fact he ball washes Specter every time he comes on the show (he even made an on air committment to contribute to Specter's re-election campaign), he didn't ask whether the loss of Brady or the fact that the Pats were the first 11 win team in 20 years not to get into the playoffs might have had more to do with it than the Pats videotaping the sidelines.
At least it seems that Specter is finally done with the issue even if he spins his total failure to get Congress involved in the matter into a big victory for him.
i totally agree w/ specter here...
for example, after the 01 sb season, we didnt want anyone getting too suspicious, so we didnt use the recordings....
also, after the 05 season, same thing happened, so we really didnt use the filming those seasons either all the way up to the pt where it was found out
in actuality, the ONLY seasons we filmed were teh 01, 03, and 04 seasons....its not just coincidence we only won the sb those seasons...

Awesome. This is about the best bulletin board material I've ever seen. Talk a about an epic diss. Now Belichick's sole mission in life will be to make Specter look like an utter fool.
I love how Spector also leaves out the fact that 'spygate' happened the year before, so the last two years the pats have been under the microscope. The year before though they were one play away from another ring, so he better not bring that up or it might damage his 'they haven't won the superbowl since i got involved' argument.
I didn't hear the interview, but stern has guys on the staff with knowledge of the game....i wonder why no-one called Spector on that? To blindly say that the pats haven't won the superbowl because of Spector is just foolishness!

Thinking about it, he might have meant the Pats didn't win the Super Bowl vs. the Giants from the season before which was actually played last year. Even then, how would Specter explain the 18 games before the Super Bowl? Does videotaping opponents only work in the Super Bowl? If so, why did the Pats get so much crap for videotaping the Jets when it would be impossible for the two teams to meet in the Super Bowl?
The guy has some issues. His party hates him because he's liberal. The democrats hate him because he's a republican. He's going to have a tough time getting re-elected in 2010. We can all pop some champagne soon after.
Democrats dont hate Spectre hes one of them. Spectre is James Bonds greatest enemy.
