Which players on the current roster are in a MUST PROVE themselves this year? - New England Patriots Forums

Who do you think should qualify for a player(s) that must prove in 2009 that they show signs that are worthy of wearing silver,red and blue and good enough to play years ahead for the Patriots?

On my list are ...

Laurence Maroney (probably on most lists)

Chris Hanson (O.K. but far from a lock for the future)

Ellis Hobbs (suddenly he has some serious competition at CB)

Ben Watson (Dropping critical passes too often and needs to show he is better or as good as Chris Baker and a still raw David Thomas)

Any others to consider?

(NO Brady,Moss or Welker allowed for those potential smartass answers please

I think you pretty much nailed it. However, Chris Hanson didn't come to mind because punters come and go.

Anyone in a contract year has something to prove. With 31 players in a contract year we could see some serious motivation.

Thomas and Watson are both in prove-it years. Maroney, if he disappoints this year, may find himself out of the league altogether. I think Pierre Woods has to prove that he's something more than a special teamer this year too.

Can't agree with Thomas - Year 1 was lost with injury and last year Cassel and him just did not click

With Brady this season I would think we will see improvement,I would still give Thomas till the end of the 2010 season to show us those hands of steel and glue that he had at the U of Texas

Watson on the other hand has been in the league longer,obviously has been on the field more than Thomas and yet has shown little since 2005 - IT IS time for OUR Big Ben to show his talent or leave

Of the people you just listed, I think only Ben Watson will be re-signed. And even that is far from certain. We will need the money to throw at Wilfork and potentially either Seymour or Peppers, depending on how things play out.
