You have to understand how our brains process information when it comes to reading. It's completely human nature to see a correctly spelled word (albeit the wrong word) and move on making a subconcious assumption that the word is correct.

This sort of stuff happens in newspapers all the time but because the Herald pissed everyone here off you guys are just being petty.
It happens all the time in my blogs and email too.

But one needs to have a proof-reading step.

I also don't approve of so-called professional journalists using incorrect homonyms because they got through spell-checkers.

On the other hand, I've had to fight with plenty of copy-editors myself who were changing the actual meaning of what I wrote, one as recently as 2005 or so. So there's no perfect system.

Papers aren't going out of business. The federal government is going to allow them to gain tax breaks as non-profit organizations. I assume we get to pay for the paper still and something else will be taxed to make up for it.

Just like football, poor business models lead to failure.

I bet you could read a thousand papers gtom that era and never find anything close to what the Herald has been doing...Noting how that someone pointed out facts that were clearly wrong in a few cases recently.

I agree it does happen a lot with vlogs e-mails etc...I may be one of the worst with typos etc...but what I find interesting is that years ago, long before any spell check was ever in anyone's imagination, newspapers had proofreaders and others who made sure of few if any mistakes. With technology and other aids it's worse now, which to me is incongruous. As I said it's more incompetence an dattention to details.

Papers aren't going out of business? I guess you haven't been paying attention to how a few large papers have and that others are headed in that direction. Not sure how that will all work being non-profits, butto say there is no problem with newspapers is really way off base. I would not be surprised to see many follow the Christian Science Monitor model and be online only.

It was incompetence. You're arguing about the underlying cause for the screw up, but it was a screw up of epic proportions. One could also look to the NYT and their publishing of Duranty's crap lying about Stalin's deliberate starvation of the Ukraine.

I know all about SB 36, I was there....no question, Marshal is a better back then Kevin.

However, I'll take they guy that helps deliver the rings over a HOF'er anyday.

Winners not whiners for me.....

I would say 2000 total yards in 1999 helped his team win a superbowl

I see your point, but from 98-02 Faulk was the best back in football
