So the defensive player can get pushed into the QB, grab the QBs leg, but can't try to use leverage to bring down the QB. So the possible results are: the defensive player props the QB up until a teammate can come in for the kill shot....or.... the ref blows the whistle because the QB was "In the Grasp". (Unless this occurs in a Super Bowl)

I think you might be right on the merits, but the NFL is also entertainment. Brady, Peyton, Big Ben and, yes, even Romo, deliver fans and audiences.

Hahahaha, that what it's coming down to. Seriously though, it's almost like they're trying to change your instincts when it comes to rushing the passer. You mean to tell me that Pat Williams or some another behemoth of a defensive lineman is actually going to run up to the passer only to stop and think about how to hit him, gimme a break.

Even if, for the sake of argument, we all agree that Wilfork would intentionally injure QBs, the question still remains: why the hell would you want to take JP Losman *out* of the game? If it had happened to a competent NFL QB, I might be willing to acknowledge the likelihood of it.

Agreed. This will likely screw the Pats defenders with ticky-tac calls.

Nothing will anger me more than when the defense makes a great play only for the refs to bail out an offense b/c of incidental contact to a QB's knees.

Such officiating will always be subjective. The NFLCC will come down on refs who don't call the new rule enough while others will throw the flag if it looks like a rusher is going for the QB's knees.

If this rule was reviewable, I might hate it less, but this is football and injuries are part of the game.

I'm not a mind reader so I have no earthly idea. Losman said something to piss him off? Belicheat gave him the order? The Bills had a chance to win? Wait a minute, isn't that the same game Takeo Spkies sacked Brady and we recovered the fumble for a touchdown? Well then, it was because we had a chance to win.

This is the part I don't understand about the argument against the rule. If Pollard had made a superior pass rush move or simply overpowered the blocker and Brady got injured as a result, then the league would be foolish to do anything. Pollard came on a blitz and went low on the blocker picking him up. He didn't make a "great play"...he made a stupid play and was fortunate to end up in an area where he could attack the QB.

If you can't stay off the ground when you are rushing the passer, then the rules should force you to get off your damn arse before you continue the pass rush. Otherwise you start to build a cottage industry of inferior players who happen to be able to dive under blocks and launch themselves like a missile at the QB. If you don't like the "Brady Rule", then how about a rule that if you are rushing the passer and end up on the ground, a blocker is free to molest you in any way they see fit. I actually think that rule would end up stopping the knee attacks more effectively. Somehow I don't think that will find its way into the rulebook...unless they bring back the XFL.
