I have not read anywhere, ever, that lil' Jimmy is 225. He's closer - maybe much closer - to 205 than 225. And Meriweather's taller than he is, too.
Maybe what he meant to say is that Sanders runs like he is 225....

I neither love nor hate Sanders. He is paid well (great in real world terms), but not extravagantly. To say that he sucks is overbaord. To say he's Rodney in his prime is ridiculous. To say he'll be "for sure" replaced by a rookie is unwise, but to say he'd never be pushed is also crazy.
Long story short : you can win with a J.Sanders, but he'll rarely (if ever) dazzle. I just think he's middle of the road. I'd still put safety second on my list for the 1st round pick after LB (specifically OLB if possible).
I'm kinda surprised to see such diverging opinion slinging for a regular starter, yet unspectacular player.
SeauOUCH - You'll have to forgive DW Toys. You see, he has a personal hatred of James Sanders. For the Pats 3 years, all Toys has done is rant and rave about how bad Sanders is. And it hasn't mattered what facts you put out there to the contrary, Toys insists that Sanders flat out sucks.
Even when pointing out that, prior to the start of 2007, BB made it a point to tell people that the Pats were in an enviable position of having 3 starting caliber safeties, Toys has ranted and raved to the contrary.
DW Toys has taken to calling me Simon, after Simon Cowell. Because I am typically one of the people who just thrashes Toys with the truth while he sits there and tries to spin things.
One of the ways you know a person is totally out of touch is that Box_O_Rocks has actually started in on him of late. Because Toys continues to beat the same drum and hasn't changed his tune.
Cousin Seau. You would be correct in your estimations. Simon tries to bait me (and us all) by insisting he is a Mensa International smart guy.....but he lives with his mom and eats on a tray table in front of his TV wishing he was John Clayton. He tells everyone he does all his work in documented knowledge which is the farthest thing from the truth. He tries to bully everyone to his way of thinking and bluff everyone saying how none of us deal in facts. The problem is everyone of his lame comebacks are simply what he thinks. It's his way or you are very stupid. They dragged me into this when I stayed out but there is serious man love there for the Sanders guy.
The Bronocs gave Lonnie a $5.5 million dollar package as a long snapper and I guess that we are supposed to be impressed that a mediocre safety at best, gets $3m per year. Shall we discuss other FA signings at warped numbers for backups?
Raise your hand if you have not heard BB tell the media what a wonderful player "so and so" is and how much potential that player has then cut him or even......... by gosh having a player sign a certain "tender" and tell the media he looks forward to working with that player for a long time then .........trading him the next week.
Now Simon, BB must have forgotten to say swell things about JS in 2008. In fact they never attempted to sign your pal in the off season. I guess you certainly showed me how valuable he was. You know that there were two other teams that listened to the BB banter on Sanders and offered more money. Isn't it amazing that the Pats did not attempt to top that offer? I could see some expressions on some faces when ole James decided to take less money to stay here than two other teams offered......oh no! HLH...Heavy Lip Hang!

They didn't re-sign him and pay him some decent money to sit on the bench and have another guy take his place - He will be seen frequently at safety in 2009 barring injury.
Sanders is clearly not a playmaker. He was re-signed because Belichick is telling us that a solid player with experience is valuable to the Pats D -- particularly the secondary. Rodney aside, I believe that Sanders and Hobbs have the most experience. And when you look at the new acquisitions brought in this off-season (Springs & Bodden), coupled with last year's draft crop (Wheatley & Wilhite) and the upcoming draft (maybe a Safety & CB), someone has to know what to do back there. Meriweather is still developing, and the two new vets haven't played a down in the Pats D. We've all witnessed blown coverages and missed assignments from the Pats secondary at times. Picture this season without Sanders exp. and we may be faced with the 2009 version of the keystone cops.
Of course we could use a playmaker in the secondary. And Bodden and/or Wheatley may or may not provide that missing ingredient from the CB position. I feel certain we'll add a Safety via the draft who may indeed be an upgrade from Sanders, but what expectations should we have of a rookie for this season?
You don't have to be athletically gifted to have value to Belichick. Obviously, Sanders has enough physical ability and intangibles to warrant his re-signing...which is good enough for me.

Oh well, this has grown tiresome. Sanders is clearly not "mediocre" at best; coming from someone who rated his coverage skills an "F" is a clear indication that you have no credibility on the topic.
