We have needs. As the patriots have done since Belichick arrived, if there is value in trading up, we will do so. If there is value in trading down, he will do so. To say that moving up is impossible is to say that the patriots put no more tha #23 value on any players that will be picked in the top 22. There is no question at all that there are players that Belichick would trade up to say 16 or 19 for if the right player is available. The list of players most likely to be traded up for are almost all linebackers.
Yes, there is something behind that statement.

Did we get a #1 for Cassell and Vrabel? If you wanted to move up in the draft you don't hang on and use THAT leverage? Really?

i dont know if thats necessarily the best way to think of things. for example, say pick #15 is up and there is a player availabe who by all accounts, the patriots front office believed would have been gone by the top 5. why not trade a second rounder to move up those 8 spots to grab their guy. or conversely, say we are up at #23 and there are 4 guys there we rate the same and are confident not all of them will go in the next 10 picks based on other teams needs. why not trade down 10 spots and pick up an extra 2nd , 3d or 4th, or 1st next year depending on how far we go down

most years we wouldnt have that flexibility, but due to great strategizing, we are in a great position to do what we want. dont get caught up in where you draft, just worry that we pick good players

Good comeback. I guess you told him!
6 years ago. I guess they've set a recent precedent.

Would moving up 2-3-4 spots really help us? Roll the dice and hope for Yahtzee!

I'm not expecting them to trade up into the first round, though I don't discount the possibility. I can see them moving up a couple places at any time in the draft to ensure they get the player they want.

I think they do trade up, only it's going to be for next years draft. BB's got a great opportunity to set things up for the future, and if I'm not mistaken he'll be here til' 2013.

I expect NE to roll additional picks forward, they've already moved one ahead in the Lewis tarde.

One thing is certain. We will all be on the edge of our seats Draft Weekend. Day 1 should be fascinating!

I expect two major moves concerning our picks. I combination trade up for a targeted player and a trade out to next year. Say a 4th or 5th for a 2rd,3rd,4th next year scenario.

But that is just a gut feeling. With BB no one really knows what to expect and that makes it realllllly interesting for all us fans!

I believe there is a very good possibility they trade up, possibly more than once in this draft.

Belichik has been masterly in Free Agency....and has put himself in the covetable position of being able to target individual players that fit the Patriots system in the draft.

Up...Down...doesn't matter. I'm convinced he's stockpiling picks for exactly that purpose, and of course one will always be used for a future higher pick
