I don't think money is the issue. If we don't sign a WR for $1M or so, we'll draft one for $500K or so, probably in the second. The question is whether there is anyone out there that we want. I like Lewis, but it seems extreme to AGAIN have no Plan B if one of the top 3 is injured. Personally, I don't like the idea of Watson as a wide receiver, a role that he held last year. He was our #3 WR.
I would note that if Belichick likes the wide receivers likely to be there in the early second, then the free agent need isn't there.
Watson 3rd WR last year ??????

Well, they reportedly just signed Galloway, making this thread wrong and/or, possibly, just a bit before its time.

How many times do people have to explain that it's not a $5 million dollar issue?
Thank you, people forget this all the time when they bring the Jarvis situation up. I would be shocked if they were thinking they could replace his value at the 2-2.5 they'd save. If Mike Wright is worth a little under 2, then Jarvis is certainly worth 2.5.
Now I wouldn't complain if they somehow restructured his hit for this yr, which is more likely
1) I said we had room for some minor signings, and would welcome the signing of a WR and FB.
2) Watson was the #4 receiver last year based on catches. Often it was he, not Gaffney, would would stretch the field. And if Moss or Welker were injured, we would have counted on him even more. This year, we will have FOUR fully qualified wide receivers, the right number in my estimation.

Yes, and as soon as you said it - poof - Galloway was signed. I agree with SBB - would you please ask for a vet OLB (maybe a former all pro with a fist name starting with the letter J), please.

Once Wright's contract is accounted for, we'll be down to about $6.4M of cap space, enough to sign veteran jags if needed. A veteran safety, if needed, can wait until after the draft (Harrison or Tank Williams).
Restructures of Brady, Faulk, Light, and/or Green would bring a little bit if needed to sign a mid-level WR or FB. However, any major signing would take cuts or extensions of at least a couple of those contracts. As we all know we've unloaded Cassel, cut Vrabel and restructured Moss to get where we are. So, belichick is willing to make moves if he views it as needed.
BOTTOM LINE
Nothing now NEEDS to be done before the draft, although minor contracts for a WR and/or FB would be welcome by me.
MG - I found it ironic that you posted this yesterday only to have it announced that the Pats had signed Galloway.

Who is actually left for the Pats to sign who would be considered anything more than a minor deal? Jason Taylor? Who else? All the major free agents are gone and all is left is more minor deals. Unless the Pats want to make a trade.
