Profootball talk is reporting that Curran is saying the same thing...

ProFootballTalk.com - Latest News and Rumors

Quote:
UPDATE: Tom Curran also reports that the Bucs and Broncos showed up after Pats coach Bill Belichick had decided to pull the trigger on the trade with the Chiefs. Credit Chiefs G.M. Scott Pioli for: (1) knowing that the Patriots were ready to do something right away with Cassel; and (2) getting a number and placing his order while the other teams were still loitering in the lobby of Schnitzer’s.

The part of this that seems so crazy is that Vrabel was already in KC taking his physical 24 hours before the trade was reported involving Cassel. What the hell were Denver and TB doing at this point? One would think that McDaniels of all people should've had a clue as to what was going to happen next. Oh well. C'est le vie.

It could be that Tampa is where the mess-up occurred causing the thing to fall apart, and that's making McDaniels look bad. If he'd pulled it off -- shipping Cutler to Tampa and landing Cassel -- it would have been pretty slick.

Yea, TB seems like a team that needs a compass right now and McDaniels is still so young and inexperienced. I liked JD when he was here, but now that he coaches the Donks, I'm cheering for him to flop big-time.

This is unbelievably frustrating, to find out that we could have gotten BETTER COMPENSATION for LESS!!!!!! We could have gotten a first rounder and retained one of the most beloved Patriots (Mike Vrabel).

Can understand disapointment.. but unbelievably frustrating are strong sentiment, does anyone really believe that BB and his Front Office would shortchange the Pats??.. the reality is that TB and Denver can say anything after the trade happened and we will never know all the details.. personally we did ok considering the market value.. #34 pick and a ton of cap space..

Let's all keep in mind, before the Skippy the Kid train coals up and leaves the station again, the Broncos' GM is Brian Xanders, and McDaniels has no control over FO stuff. Pat Bowlen is also supposed to be a rather hands-on owner on the football side as well.

Keep "retaining beloved Patriots" as a organizational goal and these beloved Patriots and their sentimental coaches and fans can all circle the bowl together, until eventually nobody can remember where the key to the the trophy case went.

I totally agree....it isn't like it was REALLY there...a LOT of this is AFTER by the way..it cudda happened...sort of looking back. with a wanting to make like it was close. HARDLY..these GMs, Det/ TB..look silly now..and should. McDaniels took the bait and he's in a mess. The Pats ONLY deal was with KC...and what were they thinking about it when Vrabel was in KC??? I think all Pats fans thought Cassel was next..especially with no large response... so what was TB doing??? It was stupid...BUT it's easy to say sure we'll send a qst and 3rd...and send teh farm AFTER when it's too late... wasn't going to happen with ineptitude like that...they got a good deal..NOT the big one..but..I think Curran's analofy was the best.

Peter King in MMQB also states similiar sentiments about the other potential deals:
