I don't find it the least bit curious. They checked with his agent, found out what he would require to sign a long term deal, and they quickly moved on to other plans.

Wilf is the type of owner who would balk at paying Cassel 10+ million a year in a good economy, nevermind in this one.

Not surprising at all. That's why they're the Minnesota Vikings, rather than build to win, they'll just burn out their stars through inadequacy for a few years and then trade them. Thank you, Minnesota, for Randy Moss and I'll thank you ahead of time for Adrian Peterson in 2011.

Thats the stupid thing about Minn. They're already built to win. All they need is a good QB, and another good reciever, and they're a SB contender. If I was them, I would give up the 1, and 3rd round picks (if thats what the pats want), and use the 2nd on a reciever, and bingo, im booking my hotel roooms for the SB.

Coincidence? Sure, free agency begins in 48 hours, but I find it interesting that three QB challenged teams have made statements or been linked to trade rumors about their QB situations. The Vikings and Rosenfel, Detroit and Culpepper, and Chicago and Orton. Funny how these three, all in the same division, feel that the status quo or Rosenfel is sufficient. My ESP/ Swami like abilities to read between the lines indicate that these teams know Cassel is off the market. Either the trade is already done or Cassel stays for the year.
I still am scratching my head that Detroit believes in Culpepper...which leads me to believe that this franchise has locked up "worst franchise" in the new millinium or they have something in the works. If I was Detroit, I would attempt to trade down from #1, maybe secure another #2, and go defense with their new #1, Cassel with their 2nd #1, and then more D in the 2nd round. They should emulate San Diego during the Eli Manning draft and use the #1 as a depth builder.

Exactly, same reason NE needs to convince people they're willing to keep Cassel to increase his value. Other teams need to convince NE they have other options besides Cassel to decrease his value. Anything you hear "leaked" from a GM was probably "leaked" by the GM...

It's almost like comparing them to the Red Sox under Lou Gorman and the Bruins under Harry Sinden and the ownership during the 80s. They knew they had a rabid fan-base that would support their teams no matter, what so they capitalized on it by putting a product out there that competed for the playoffs, but were always an impact player or two short of making them championship quality. The B's and Sox had opportunities, but as a fan I was always frustrated because the ownerships were a little too tight when they needed to open up a little. That's how I view the Vikings by going after Rosenfels with very little upside potential compared to going after Cassell.
