Default Curran kind of rephrases his earlier statements on Brady

Curran: Brady confident he's on track for '09 season - NFL- nbcsports.msnbc.com

Quote:
In late December, NBCSports.com reported that the slowness of Brady's rehab, the looseness in the ligaments and possible further surgery to remove the scar tissue buildup would muddy the waters on how the team would proceed with Brady's backup, Matt Cassel. Cassel had a terrific 2008 in relief of Brady. He's since been designated the team's franchise player. The Patriots figured to either trade Cassel or keep him around as insurance if Brady's knee was not full-go for training camp or the early part of 2009. But given Brady's insistence that he is doing well, the likelihood that Cassel is kept around as insurance could diminish.
didnt he clearly say that brady most likely wont be ready for 2009 and may even miss it ? now its just 'muddy the waters'

No, he just brought it [Brady not being ready for opening week] up as a possibility, which it was - and still probably remains, albeit the likelihood becomes less and less as Brady continues to rehab w success. Fortunately, it seems like Brady has gotten back on track at this point - I'm taking TB's word at face value. Others took Curran's words, exaggerrated and expounded on them towards a doomsday scenario, but it wasn't Curran himself.

Based on what's been said on this board, it was a lot more than that. He also suggested:

Quote:
Even if Brady gets the scar tissue removed, regains greater mobility in the knee and is able to get the strength back in his quad, the looseness in the ligaments won’t go away without a second surgery, the source said. At this point, deciding to have that second surgery would cost him the 2009 season because a second surgery wouldn’t be recommended this soon after the first, especially with the current condition of the area.

I recall the interview Curran had with Dan Patrick about a month ago in which he made it sound definite that Brady could not and would not start the season. I don't recall the exact wording but that was clearly the message he delivered.

Any way to contact him?

Edit: never mind

i definitely remember him being pretty adamant that if the pats wound up franchising cassel it would be as brady insurance, NOT to trade him for picks.

With all due respect, that's not true. No one I read, and I read a helluva lot, "exaggerated... Curran's...words (regarding) a doomsday scenario..." It was Curran himself and any attempt to claim otherwise is revisionist history.

No. Curran said that IF Brady were to be forced to deal with the laxity, it would threaten the 2009 season. It's clear now that while there remains looseness in the ligament, that is not something that Brady and the team felt the need to undergo additional treatments/surgeries for. And, given that Brady keeps pronouncing himself on-track, and assuming the stories that he's doing drills are true and accurate, there's less reason to worry that complications have forced the issue.

I emailed Curran asking if he regretted that he may have exaggerated Brady's situation a bit and he replied with "FU".

I think he got duped by some pissed off local doctors that did not get the chance at the surgery.

He took them as serious well qualified sources and ran with the story.

Oh, well. Looks like we can put all that to bed now.
