Default Super Bowl Appearances/Wins by team -Patriots look good

The Patriots look good in Super Bowl appearances and wins compared to all teams in the NFL.

There are 32 team in the league. Out of the 32 teams only 16 (50%) have won a Super Bowl since the merger of the AFL and NFL. I don't count the
first 3 because they were separate leagues and did not play a combined NFL schedule.

Pittsburgh Steelers IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII XXX 6-1
San Francisco 49ers XVI, XIX, XXIII, XXIV, XXIX 5-0
Dallas Cowboys VI, XII, XXVII, XXVIII, XXX V, X, XIII 5-3
Green Bay Packers I, II, XXXI XXXII 3-1
New York Giants XXI, XXV, XLII XXXV 3-1
Oakland/LA Raiders XI, XV, XVIII II, XXXVII 3-2
Washington Redskins XVII, XXII, XXVI VII, XVIII 3-2
New England Patriots XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX XX, XXXI, XLII 3-3 Baltimore/Indianapolis Colts V, XLI III 2-1
Miami Dolphins VII, VIII VI, XVII, XIX, 2-3
Denver Broncos XXXII, XXXIII XII, XXI, XXII, XXIV 2-4
Baltimore Ravens XXXV 1-0

Tampa Bay Buccaneers XXXVII 1-0
Chicago Bears XX XLI 1-1
Kansas City Chiefs IV I 1-1
St. Louis/LA Rams XXXIV XIV, XXXVI 1-2

Never won a Super Bowl:
Minnesota Vikings IV, VIII, IX, XI 0-4
Buffalo Bills XXV, XXVI, XXVII, XXVIII 0-4
Philadelphia Eagles XV, XXXIX 0-2
Cincinnati Bengals XVI, XXIII 0-2
Tennessee Titans XXXIV 0-1
Seattle Seahawks XL 0-1
San Diego Chargers XXIX 0-1
Carolina Panthers XXXVIII 0-1
Atlanta Falcons XXXIII 0-1
Arizona Cardinals XL 0-1

6Teams have never been to a Super Bowl since the merger. Can you name them? The Patriots have been to the SB 6 times which ties them for 4th overall with the Bronco's but have a better winning %.

That is 6 AFC Championships for the Patriots while just less than half have one or none.

Without looking it up, I'd say Lions, Browns, Saints, Texans, and Jaguars; but no idea on the last team.

The Jets are missing from the OP's list (Super Bowl III), but they are the sixth team to have not appeared in a super bowl since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. Kind of a trick question.

Correct. The Jets SB was before the merger so they did not play a common NFL schedule. And I love leaving them out of the modern SB appearance list.

A couple things, Nut:

1) Super Bowl IV was played at the end of the 1969 season, the last year before the merger became complete, i.e. you should include it with the first three SBs. In '69 the leagues still only played each other in preseason games and the Super Bowl.

2) Until Arizona won the NFCCG a few weeks ago there were six teams that had never been to a Super Bowl; now there are only five: the Browns, Lions, Saints, Jaguars and Texans. (And of those five, Cleveland is the only city to have never hosted a Super Bowl either.)

Well if we are going to count SBIV as before the merger, then the # is 7 when you add the Chiefs and the Jesters.

I know that can be argued. But I think it is fair to only count those since the merger. I believe that the offcial title of the game back then was not the Super Bowl ( Super Bowl was the media name for it at the time). It was the AFL-NFL Championship game or something like that.

I would rate the Cowboys ahead of the 49ers. They each won 5 Super Bowl,s but the Cowboys made it to three additional Super Bowls.
