Yeah, but those 4 positions need to gel with the other 7. It isn't like the secondary works autonomously from the rest of the defense. I would want my secondary coach to be well versed in the 3-4 and understand everyone's roles on every given play. Herm needs to know how the roles of the front 7 will affect his coverage schemes. It really isn't as simple as that since the secondary isn't part of the 3-4 part of the 3-4 defense that Edwards' lack of experience in the 3-4 isn't an issue. It may be an issue that is relatively easy to overcome, but I wouldn't bet on it.
