In 2003, Favre had a decade in the NFL, multiple MVPs, a Lombardi as starting QB, a ridiculous consecutive game streak and played in Green Bay where the fans relate to their players a little differently than they do with the big market teams. His close relationship with his father was well-publicized before his father died unexpectedly of a heart attack.

I don't have the Favre hatred you exhibit (I respect him for his best football days, but I believe his best days are well behind him and he receives more praise than he deserves at this point), but I have read articles since Favre has been in the NFL.

I suspect Cassel and Favre had the same press release (father passed away unexpectedly), but less is known nationally of Cassel who is a virtual rookie and not a well-known veteran with Favre's accomplishments as of 2003. The media takes it from there, not the individual.

It is apples and oranges to compare the media response to the two, and exhibits a fair degree of ignorance to say Favre self-promoted himself as a hero when he played against the Raiders after his father died. Hate the guy if you want, but have a factual basis for that conclusion if you want to post a message of empathy related to the handling of news of the death of a parent.

8-10 that's a tough call, some old timers for sure, like Sammy Baugh, and maybe Dan Fouts, etc.

That's my list, I'm sure everyone else's is different
Good list and brave of you to put it forth, so no flaming here. Can't argue with any of the names you have there. Brady and Manning are still "Incompletes." I think rings are critical in evaluating QB's, so if Manning somehow picked up two more, his career stats would put him ahead of TB. With even one ring, Marino would be well up the list. If Tommy had his fourth, I'd argue that he belongs at the top or in a respectful tie with Montana. Hopefully, he'll come back in good enough form to get it. I also think that ultimately he will deserve to be ranked above Elway, but that's where the "Incomplete" comes in. Bradshaw has four rings; you can't leave him off the list and pretty high up on it no matter how much we love to dis him. Bart Starr belongs on it too and in the top three. He led the Pack to five NFL titles, including two SB's. You're right about Sammy Baugh, but I'd also want to argue for Sid Luckman, if for nothing else, for his impact on how the game was played (first great T Formation QB). I'd have to think about it before I rank ordered them, but we agree on Number One. I'd probably have Starr number two and move Unitas down a few notches.

Bottom Line: just being on this list makes you great. Then, it's just a matter of arguing over your rightful slot among the greats.

like how when the jets RB had that huge run for a td yesterday, and then they said "farve always finding a way to get it done" I cant even stand hearing all the favre bull crap anymore.

Why don't we talk about everyone that has a father pass away? Why do they give more publicity to Cassel and his father and not anyone else?

I not sure how the names on my list would fall. I wouldn't call someone else's list a F'n joke tho. Did you take into account that the rules were a tad different in those qb's eras. Not sure where Bradshaw would be on my list (as someone mentioned) but he was the qb of all those winning Superbowl teams, and I've never seen a qb take a bigger hit in my life with no flags thrown.

Okay I understand why Cassel didn't get as much coverage as Favre, but why did this get less coverage than a BB handshake?

That is debatable, Would it be fair to say that when Favre played the Raiders after his Dad died, at that point in his career he was a better QB then Cassel is today. I suppose that can be debated also.

Back on topic, Favre is an icon world famous SB winning QB.

Matt Cassel is Brady's back up. It should not surprise anyone that the Favre's and Brady's of the world get more attention then Matt Cassel.

Why would you say that? I personally think that Brady is the G.O.A.T. based upon all I've seen and heard (I only go back to the 70's with first-hand knowledge, and the rest is film, tape, numbers and interviews), but placing players like Montana, Unitas, Graham, Starr, or Elway ahead of Brady is certainly not a joke. In fact, CHFF does place many of them ahead of Brady, placing Brady fifth in their top ten of all time list:

Cold, Hard Football Facts.com: The definitive list: Top 10 NFL quarterbacks

I don't agree with CHFF because I think Brady gets penalized for not playing for as many years as those in front of him, but when you look at the quarterbacks at the very top of the mountain, it's one hell of a group and arguments can be made for many of them. In fact, while I can disagree, I think people could legitimately argue for any of CHFF's top 6 as the G.O.A.T.
