I was listening to Pittsburgh AM sports radio on my way back from East Lansing on Sunday, caught the early part of the game before Detroit radio shouldered its way onto the amplitude.
Their color guy made a good point, that last year, with Bruschi and Seau, the Pats brought both their ILBs down over the guards before the snap to control the line of scrimmage, and this year, that wasn't happening, and the Steelers were running the ball much better against Guyton and Mayo.
Last year Seau was great at knifing that frontside A and B gap, either on run reads or via the blitz. He was very quick to the LOS. Mayo and Guyton tend to make their tackles yards downfield. I think now the Pats are trying to get some of that linebacker play back, now that Seau is healthy and fresh and it's turned into running season.

well, i hope these guys (seau and colvin) have something left in the tank.
The pats are far from a guaranteed playoff spot never mind a chance at a ring.
This is true. At the same time, the outlook could look better by Week 17. The '05 Steelers were also 7-5 after Week 13 of their season, and we know how that turned out.

That's good to hear. Another experienced and proven body at LB can only help.
As long as he is in game shape, waiting till now might have been done for a purpose i.e. keeping him fresh for the stretch run.
Also Mayo is not used to a 16 game season and is seeing close to every snap in each game. This will keep him from wearing down.
Seau has no idea of how not to be in shape, even football game shape,He is a beast at keeping the body solid and hard - A 39 year old man in the body of a 25 year old.
He's in better shape than anyone in here and most elsewhere ..I can guarantee you that
Its his speed that is a problem

Same with the Giants last season, and they were ruled out in their first few games last year.

sure, anything can happen. First thing, win this weekend.
I have no doubt this team can go 4-0 and get into the playoffs if they play consistently. If they turn the ball over, drop passes, let other teams continue to convert third and longs, then that's another story.
Those two teams you quoted got their D kickin Arse the last 8 weeks (4 regular and 4 post season) so let's see what the D looks like with the new/old faces.
The attitude and dynamic nature of play Junior brings has me excited about this. Imagine the amount Mayo and Guyton can learn from a true professional in Junior Seau.
I'm happy to have him back on this team.
Now if we can get AT back.. Rosie + Junior + AT = big game experience.
I'm surprised. By all accounts, Seau was happy surfing. He's made plenty of money, he's old to play a physical position, but he says he wants to take care of unfinished business.
That might make sense if the Pats were steaming to the playoffs, Brady was at the helm, and all they needed was Colvin and Seau to shore up the injuries at LB and put them over the top.
While it's still possible that the Patriots could go to the Superbowl, it's a long shot.
Did he miss football that much? Or is it the money?

Maybe its a favor.
