Look, I think Brady is one of the greatest, if not greatest, QB ever. He was clearly the MVP of last season, and he has kept us in games we had no right being in, but I'm not sure right here or right now that he would be enough of a difference in getting us to the playoffs or deep into the playoffs.
As we've often told Colts fans, one guy, even a Peyton Manning, doesn't win a Super Bowl. A team does. And right now, our team, on one side of the ball, looks awful. So yeah, right now I'd rather have someone fixing that side of the team rather than making our already good offense better.
To each his own I guess. But the idea that you would "trade" a healthy Brady for any single defensive player in the league is mysterious to me.

I never said I'd trade Brady for anyone. I don't think you keep Cassel and trade Brady (though I understand the argument). Our offense is built around Brady, as he is reliably good from year to year. Who knows if Cassel is solid or a fluke (kind of like Anderson for the Browns last year)?
I just said that right here and now, where we are at in this season, I'd feel a lot better if I knew Adalius was coming back or even if Rodney were coming back. I think our offense right now is pretty good. Brady would make it great. I think our defense (especially red-zone defense) is awful. AD would make it much better. As would Asante Samuel (assuming he was healthy). I think the difference in bringing the defense up is far greater than the difference in offense without Brady to with Brady.
So, unless Brady could fix our D, I don't think this team, this year, is making it very far.

Cassel and Thomas vs. Brady and Woods ? I'll take Brady and Woods, thank you very much. I'd also take Brady and O'Neal over Cassel and any CB in the league.

It's all about Manning. Take him off the team or take Sanders off the team ? The Colt defense hasn't made a big difference, they're still getting eliminated in the AFC playoffs, the one year they didn't was when Manning outscored the Patriots when we were in the 30s even with Sanders and the defense.
As poor as this defense has been, Brady's play at QB would've been the difference in at least two games, and the Pats would be looking at 9-3 with a division lead and perhaps a first round bye, instead of 7-5 on the outside of the playoffs looking in. Those claiming that it wouldn't make a difference if we had Brady or Cassel are lying to themselves.

I do, and I can see what you're saying. But for all of the big lead, easy games last year, in the end it came down to our defense in a really tight game, and our defense came up wanting.
And comparing last year's team to the ones that won Super Bowls, I believe that the defense has been the difference that pushed us over. I honestly think we would be in control of the AFC East and bucking for a bye right now if our defense was playing anywhere close to '03-'04 standards, even without Brady.
So yeah, right now, I'd rather have a solid DB. Or a better pass rusher.
the pats defense was not the problem in their SB against the giants......they gave up 17 points which is the least (along with the rams SB) they have ever given up in an SB.......
14 points scored would not have won any of their SB's

Funny you bring up Peyton when the 2006 Colts defense had one of the worst run defenses of all time.
One side of the ball may look awful now, but BelichickFan is right, that side of the ball wouldn't look that bad if Brady was around. The team was averaging 40 points a game for the majority of the season last year and settled in at 38 points a game. As bad as the defense has looked of late, our AVERAGE point total from last year still puts us in all those games - with the reality being that we probably get ahead and our D can play better by knowing its just playing the pass. Not to mention the 5 turnovers were the reason for the 33 points on Sunday, not necessarily the defense's playing poorly.
We have no way of ever knowing, but my gut tells me we're probably 11-1 or 12-0 right now with Brady. It's a completely different ball club with him there, with all due respect to Cassel who has done a great job.
To me, one of the most astounding things about this season is how quickly people forgot how insanely dominant our offense was last year.

I'm not saying it wouldn't make any difference, I'm saying it wouldn't make as much difference as if we had some better playmakers on D. If our D stops a 3rd and 15 in the Jets game, we probably win. If they did a bit more in the Colts game, we probably win. There're two games right there without Brady, which we should have won.

You mean up until the playoffs, when the injured Sanders returned and shut down our running game? Kind of like Eli was an interception machine last year (except for the playoffs).

I don't forget. But I don't forget that the Vikings never won when they were an offensive juggernaut, and Indy hasn't fared much better until they addressed their D problems. The old saying is that defense and a strong running game wins Super Bowls. Right now I see neither from this team with or without Brady.
