Re: Crazy Hypothetical: Could Cassel have won SB 42???
Cassel would have been killed. He scrambles now because teams drop people deep to take away Moss, that gives Cassel the checkdown throw and the scramble option, should the throw not be there.
The Giants' Super Bowl game plan was to bring pressure up the middle, and flood the short zones to take away all the checkdown and screen stuff. Hence Cassel would have had nowhere to escape to.
The only thing that could have helped the Pats win the Super Bowl was enough of a deep passing game to make the Giants back off, or make them pay for gambling.
Re: Crazy Hypothetical: Could Cassel have won SB 42???
I've defended Cassie but this premise is beyond ludicrous. To make it even worse, we're talking about the MC of Feb 2008, not the one we have now.
The MC then had NO, I repeat virtually NO game experience. THINK about that. It was B4 even the pre-season game experience.
It's taken several games for MC to learn to deal with the pass rush; note how much better he is now but now he has Neal who was OUT in the SB debacle.
It's taken several games for MC to keep his eyes downfield under pressure and look for the 2nd & 3rd option. Brady is THE master of this.
MC still hasn't developed the ability to throw deep. Knowing the dropoff in deep play ability vs Brady, the well-coached Jints woulda been able to bring even more pressure or to cover the short passes even better, requiring perfect timing and risking picks.
Just a couple minutes thought people before beginning a thread.

Re: Crazy Hypothetical: Could Cassel have won SB 42???
LOLOL. Cassel's big problem is holding onto the ball too long and eating sacks. He would have been sacked twice as much and wouldn't have put up as many points as Brady did. Come on, get real here.
