Indeed. Great game. I took a LOT of flack from my friends for defending BB's decision to go with Cassel. Lately, it's been nice to see them squirm. Tomorrow, despite the loss, ought to be a LOT of fun... heh.

The longer we wait the tougher it will be to keep him, if we want to keep him. Franchising him is a dumb move, signing him to a short multi-year deal gives us flexibility to trade but also insurance for Tom.
That might have worked afer the third game, Mav. Now the high bidder will pony up at least 20 mil over 4 years, half guaranteed, with a 5 mil bonus. If Matt keeps improving, these numbers won't not get him signed.

The guy keeps getting better, so the more we wait, the more likely he is gone and we get nothing in return.

At the half:

14/24 passing, 199 yards, 1 td, no int's. 4 rushes for 42 yards.

Good, productive, smart, mistake-free game so far. Just needs to improve red zone vision.

[edit] Finishes with 400 yards, 30 for 50 attempts, 3 td's, 65 yards rushing, and a final drive with no timeouts left, 1 minute remaining on the clock, starting on his own 35, and scoring the game tying TD on the last drive.
He was a coin flip away from 460 yards passing............He was dominant. On that redzone play where he tried to force it in to stone hands Watson, Matt could have tucked it and ran it in. He'll learn from that. He was great last night.

The Patriots have an interesting problem that was exposed to the world vs. the Jets. Cassel used the glare of the national TV lights to move from the category of curiosity to free-agent quarterback who could sign for $25 million to $30 million over the next three or four years — Derek Anderson-type money. What's a club with Tom Brady due back next year to do?

The whole thing is interesting because we just blew a high draft pick on O'Connell, which may impact what we do with Cassel.
