Default Guregian: Tom Brady suffers setback; Infection leads to two more procedures

http://bostonherald.com/sports/footb...rts&position=0

Anyone read the article in the Herald about Brady having a two more precedures done on his knee? This sucks. It makes it worse because we really do not know how he is doing. You have to wonder when or if he will play again. How does this happen.

It sucks, but reading the article they say if there's any suspicion of an infection they'll operate as much as they need too. The doctor still thinks Brady will be back just fine. It sucks hearing he's still under the knife though.

Karen Guregian.

In any case, let me quote a small portion of the article, to allay your fears somewhat:

Quote:
“Often, if you’re concerned about an infection, you clean the knee out as many times as it needs to be cleaned out,” [Dr. Arun Ramappa, chief of sports medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center] said. “We clean it out until we think it’s adequate. Ideally, you don’t want an infection at all, or any repeat surgeries. They may be being cautious, it’s hard to know. There could be a residual infection, or they’re doing everything they possibly can to make sure the infection is gone.” [. . .]

“The less knee surgery you have, the better, but he’s a tremendous athlete,” Ramappa said. “As long as the graft is OK and the infection is gone, he should be able to come back just fine. This will just be a blip on the screen.”

Besides, he's got almost a full year to heal.

If the 'second and third' surgeries happened in..you know...June, I'd be a bit more worried about his availability but he should be fine for the 09 season.

The way I see it is this--he signed a contract through 2010. And I'm pretty damn sure he plans to fulfill it to the best of his ability--and that means being ready to go Opening Day 2009.

It sucks he has to have a 3rd surgery but at the same time atleast its still early and will have plenty of time to recover from it.

God news like this makes my stomach drop. Not in the good, roller-coaster way, but in the dog-hit-by-car way.

The difference is that Brady calmly calls audibles while Manning flaps like a chicken, barks 11 code words, and makes sure every camera in the stadium has documented his once-in-a-generation (and patented, I believe) ability to see a defensive formation and change the play. Both have the same effect, but Manning transcends measurable human intellect while Brady merely chooses a different play.

I'm hoping they don't have to start from scratch.
