I was originally going to mention these two after the game, especially if the Pats win, but Belichick talked about them today so I thought I'd do the same.

I'm not sure if any of you saw the Steelers' hotel requirements from last year, but I think that gives a good sense of what Football Ops. Directors have to arrange logistically every time the team travels.

So just think about what Matt and Kevin had to do this past week, essentially moving the football operations out to the west coast as if it were the Super Bowl. As Belichick said today, some of the equipment they used this week was San Jose's, but most of it came over on the trip. So between Caracciolo, Anderson, the equipment people, and the trainers, there was a lot of logistics that had to be worked out, and Belichick seemed pleased today in his press conference with how it all turned out. Hopefully that means the team will be prepared to go out there and win Sunday night.

And by the way, they'll have to do this all over again in December.

There is an adage in the military which is also applicable here: "Amateurs discuss tactics. Professionals discuss logistics".

No one who hasn't been involved with these sorts of deployments has any idea of the scope of such a move, and the immense amount of planning that goes into seeing that every little detail is worked out in advance. Hours-long meetings are held to talk about what could possibly go wrong, and how it will be dealt with. The over-riding mission is to ensure that those tasked with carrying out the work (IE: Players and coaches) can go about doing whatever it is they need to do, with everything they need at hand, and as smoothly and effortlessly as if it were back home.

If the Rolling Stones and U2 can move to 12 cities in 15 days, the Patriots should be able to set up camp once in 15 days.

They use 2 complete systems. When one is loading out of arena x, another is setting up in arena y.

Not really. Your travel agent doesn't have to arrange for potential medical and hospital resources, PR opportunities and enquiries, security for both staff and players, arranging areas for equipment storage and use, transport for both humans and equipment, plus security in transit, packing both team, coach and player equipment and personal items for air transport to and from, arranging for drivers on call, etc.

Before I joined the military, I spent three years as a roadie. It's a helluva lot more than tossing gear into a truck, unloading, and plugging it all in. It is ALL about the planning and execution, and there many who burn out uner the stress.

thats what they are trained and paid for, i really dont think it worth mentioning and making a big deal out of, its basically putting equipment in traveling cases and un packing them, this is done evey day of the year with moving companies, i guess its a slow day

Not necessarily. I have been involved in several major deployments after mass disasters where we have had to set up mobile morgues ( I'm a forensic dentist) and it is easier said than done when you include logistics, food, lodging, communications, electronics, bathroom facilities as well as security.This is especially true when the infrastructure is destroyed as after Katrina in Louisiana and Mississippi. While it is what people are paid and trained for, some do it better than others. Think of the NFL draft and how some teams do their homework and draft well (NE, SD, Indy) and others are usually clueless (Cinn, Det).
While it gets easier to do it if you do it repeatedly, if the Pats front office could do this seamlessly,(as it seems so far) they are to be credited. Hopefully when they do it later in the season, they can do it as well.
