Default Hollow victories

.... just think.
Your team is playing the PATs this season
You've got some kind of grudge againts the PATs.
You've been looking forward to settling scores and getting some respect back.

... but then in the back of your mind there is this nagging little voice ...

"Even if we beat the PATs ... it really doesn't settle anything because
the PATs are without their king pin ... Tom Brady ... it's like beating up a cripple "

If I were from such a team or a fan of such a team ...
... it would be a hollow Victory.

All such teams really have to wait until next year when Tommy is back.

All such games this year come with an *-without Tom Brady

But what is really cool ... if PATs beat such teams, and I think they will,
we can say PATs can beat them even without Tom Brady
Oh... the agony

And even worse if (hopefully when ) they lose.

A sarcastic Bill Belichick on Tom Brady's finger injury, "It's not life threatening."

that's why i said, aside from the urgency because we're 2-3, this game is a no win situation for the chargers

if we win, who cares, we didn't beat brady, if we lose...oh jesus, we lost to THAT at qb

I don't buy this. All NFL teams care about is winning and making it to the next level.

So, if teams like Miami make the playoffs, their win against us will not hollow. If they don't then it's still a win.

And further, the cripple analogy is lost to me.

i bet if we lose, a lot of pats fans who thought they might lose this game will turn around blame cassel, and coaches for the loss and wont realize at the time that we dont have brady so our chances have reduced

Exactly. A win's a win.

I think you may have missed the point or didn't carefully read the following
two lines:

" You've got some kind of grudge againts the PATs.
You've been looking forward to settling scores and getting some respect back. "

Putting it a different way:
Suppose Colts were beating PATs year in and out with Manning at the helm.
Then Manning bust his leg and the PATs come in and beat the Colts WITHOUT Manning.
Yeah a win is a win but there is a hollow feeling because we didn't do it
when Manning was at the helm.

I hate it when a key player gets injured on another team that we are about
to play. I want to beat them at their best or lose trying!
That is what I was trying to convey about "Hollow Victories"

I did read that. It might be sweeter if they beat the Patriots with Brady. I just buy into the hollow victory thing. There are no * by a W.

Now the media and fans may think or say that but not the players.
