Default Potentially both starting WRs could be out for the Chargers

Chambers looks to be doubtful on Sunday already. But Vincent Jackson also missed practice today due to a knee injury in Wednesday's practice. I am going to guess that Jackson will play, but I think we may have played the Chargers at the right time because no one is healthy on their starting offense other than Rivers and a few linemen.

Injury Updates

Chris Chambers, who injured an ankle in Miami, hasn't practiced this week. While he'd like to play Sunday night, he'll probably take it cautiously.
"I'm gradually improving every day so it just depends on how I feel," he said. "I'm not going to go out here and do anything crazy in October just to get on the field when I know we have guys who can step up and play. We'll be fine."

However, Vincent Jackson also sat out practice with a sore right knee, which he tweaked Wednesday.

Linebacker Jyles Tucker (hamstring) also did not participate for the second straight day. Antonio Cromartie (hip), LaDainian Tomlinson (toe) and fullback Mike Tolbert (ankle) were limited in their preparation.

I don't like winning games due to other players getting hurt, but I do like the Pats winning.

I would rather take my chances now and play a 100% healthy Chargers team and possibly lose then go and play a banged up charger team in the playoffs then to beat a banged up Chargers team now and get beat by a healthy one later.

If the Chargers don't get healthy soon, I don't think we have to worry about the Pats seeing them in the playoffs. If they lose on Sunday, they will be 2-4 and have to go back to the East Coast to play Buffalo the following week (and West Coast teams haven't done well on the East Coast this year). And then they go to England to play the Saints (if East Coast Time is killing West Coast teams, what will playing in London time do?). After their bye some of their games include @ Pittsburgh, Indy, Atlanta, @ Tampa, and Denver. I think if the Chargers continue to suffer through injuries, they may be lucky to go .500.

Even when they were closer to full strength, they were a flawed team. The odds that the Chargers dig themselves out of a huge early season hole two years in a row are rather slim. The odds go down considerably if Tomlinson's toe, Gates' hip, Chambers' ankle, etc. continue to be a problem.

I don't think Chambers plays, but Jackson probably at least tries to give it a go. Chambers doesn't sound like a guy who will be playing this weekend.

I guess I am a little bit of a greedy homer because I hope a lot of SD guys need time off so we can deliver a knock-out punch for their season.

After seeing Chambers get carted off last week, I'd be surprised if he played this week. I'm willing to bet that Jackson will be good to go though.

I'm not sure I follow the point. I see no downside whatsoever to the Chargers as weak as possible when we play them. This is a conference game with tie-breaker implications and the difference between keeping pace with Buffalo or not. I would be fine if they put the San Diego High junior varsity in there. I'll worry about what it means for the playoffs later.

His point was that it is fore-ordained that we will be 1-1 with the Chargers this year, and that if we win in October, we will therefore have to lose in January. And if we lose in October, we will therefore win in January

While I agree that IF we can only win one game, I would rather it be the playoff one, not the regular season one, I just don't see any connection between the games at all. I'd rather play to win now, and play to win later.

I guess bottom line is that I don't buy his premise that it is good to lose now so that we can win later on.

I'm with you, I think the Chargers are fading. Sure, their first 2 losses were close games decided by freak plays, but they almost got beat by the lowly Raiders, then get beat by the team that drafted #1 overall. They now have lost 3 games that they were supposed to win, and they nearly lost a 4th. Every great team is allowed a mulligan, one crap game per year, but playoff teams don't lose 3 games that they are decidedly supposed to win. Denver effectively has a 3 game lead over them, and they've supposedly played the soft stretch of the schedule. The Chargers are not a playoff team.
