Default Jerod Mayo...plays like he has been here for years

Jerod Mayo has played eight quarters of NFL linebacker football. He played every defensive play in game one, and I believe he played every defensive play yesterday. He has 13 solo tackles.

Good pick? Great pick?

Whaddya think?

From what we've seen so far, I think you'd have to call it a great pick. Any rookie that starts from day 1 in this defense is a great pick.

A rookie that starts in this D - and plugs hole like a baseball bat hitting a homah.
For a 243 lb. rookie to take on NFL guards - such as Faneca 315 lbs. is no small feat.

Think about it, how many runs up the middle have we been gashed for?
Because non stick out in my mind.
Just think back to what a crap ILB does... see monty beisel.

Not to mention his speed!
He was flying around making tackles, I recall one on the sidelines where his pure speed prevented a first down.
Wait till he really spreads his wings.

Ok, seriously, bringing Monty Beisel into this is just uncalled for. Thanks for the flashbacks.

Suddenly I have this vision of LT carrying a lump of flesh into the endzone!

WHY IS THIS?? WHO IS RESPONSIBLE!

I remember this play. Damn, he was moving fast.

One of these games he is going to pop someone that doesn't get thier butt out of bounds!

I friggin love Jerod Mayo.

There will be some growing pains, and we've seen a few plays in both games where he was slow to react or physically overmatched. But generally, he's taking on guards and getting off the blocks in time to make tackles. He is seemingly hitting the right gap and spots in the running game, and he has been good enough in the passing game that we've only noticed him a few times. He is a very sound tackler and he's very quick.

I'm quite excited about his play thus far.

So far the top two rookie tacklers are Keith Rivers with 18 and Mayo with 13.
