Default Playing "Belichick Ball"

These are the "other" New England Patriots.
The Patriots that:

-only opens the playbook enough to win
-a touchdown would be nice but a field goal will do
-don't blow teams out
-wins by solid defense
-makes opposing teams think the best team didn't win
-doesn't look like a dynasty
-beats you using role players like Kevin Faulk and lunchpail players like Ray Ventrone
-opposing fans think are lucky, or get all the breaks, or have the refs in their pocket
-invests more in special teams
-wins with team depth, absorbing injuries and patiently wearing down the other teams
-forces the other team to play mistake free, disiplined ball (which they can't)
-makes that game winning clutch play

These are the Patriots the opposing fans, ignorant pundits, and superficial talking heads don't get it and never will.

The one where the opposition feels they were one interception, goal line stand, holding call away from winning...

This is the team that in past years gave us ulcers as they squeeked out a win each week and made us beg for "just one blowout".

You know BB is smiling inside and loving every minute of it....we should too.

I loved having beastly record breaking Tom, but having these satisfying grinding team wins playing Belichick Ball is definitely a nice consolation

What he said,

But also BB has the uncanny knack of being able to use a specific players strength to help the team.. how many players have passed through here and been coached up to looked good, only to look ok in another system..

Interesting. My father and I had the same conversation after the game yesterday. My take is that it's very similar when you work for an employer that's a good, solid organization and you happen to be lucky enough to work for a manager that's able to properly lead, manage and mentor. Whether any of us would admit it or not, we simply become more effective at our jobs because we're given proper direction but are also given the opportunity to learn the business (something that wouldn't happen with a different manager/different company).

"Lunchpail players" 2001 all over again in so many ways. Back to our roots

I agree with what you're saying but a catchier name would be Billy Ball.
