My guess is Cassel is going to have a great year and bring us to the AFC championship game and maybe even beyond, maybe he’ll win the superbowl and their will be a QB controversy next year (obviously if Cassel went 19-0 brady would still be our QB just trying to prove a point)

I watched the NFL Replay of Jesters @ Fish - 12 rec to TE by Penny, his WR are "limited", but he made do nicely with that squishy Jest's middle. Watson at practice today could be very big news...I expect Cassel's first play to be play action and a toss to either Welker or Thomas in the middle.
More than likely!
Right from the get-go, I fully expect to see the Jets stacking 7 or 8 in the box, baldly daring Cassel to throw it and beat them that way.
Once things calm down, however, I expect the Jets to revert to form, and we'll see a physical game the remainder of the way, not that that will help the Jets much.
But another on-field donnybrook could happen. It is in New Jersey, after all!
I figure by the end of the day, the Pats have a an easy time of it, 24-3.

Do you guys remember the Colts game in 2001 which was Brady's first start? They won 44-13, and came out in 5 wide. Although they reined it back in after that first drive, I would not be surprised to see them again come out with multiple WR sets. The Jets have to be thinking run first with Cassell at the helm so maybe the Pats will come out throwing. We'll see.
He's bound to. Most QBs take three years to fully get the grasp of the starting QB position.
Any QB who comes into the league and begins his starting career screws up. It happened to Tom Brady, it happened to Peyton Manning. He will throw interceptions (likely to throw at least one this Sunday), and he will make bad decisions. He will overly rely on Randy Moss and miss out on open receivers (hell, even Brady did that on occasion). He will hold onto the ball to long. He will fumble the ball. All of this WILL happen, and it WILL happen more than we're used to. That is for CERTAIN.
This will be part of the process. I have faith in Cassel, I really do. But I hope everyone here understand this will be a process with (hopefully) many ups, but there will certainly be a fair share of downs as well. There are a fair amount of bandwagon fans here that only understand success. Having a HOF QB starting our games every week is a priviledge and it is incredibly unusual.
I have faith in BB and his ability to coach and protect his own teams weaknesses. We are no longer the best team in the league and I hope everyone understand this: we are likely NOT going to win the superbowl this year. It certainly could happen, but our chances are considerably low.
Cassel will screw up a lot this year and I hope everyone understands that. My only hope is that it will happen rarely enough where we can win more games than we lose.
Before anyone here harps on me, I DO think we will make the playoffs this year. And from there, it's one game at a time. This is more a test of BB than anyone this year.
he might be like rivers, flip the switch once he's named the starter, and not make alot of mistakes his first year starting

i think you're seriously onto something
everyone keeps saying oh well they'll be more of a running team now
so going balls out from cassell's first start then toning it down, might really catch alot of teams off guard
I'm not worried at all about the mistakes he will make. The kid is highly intelligent so I think his mistakes will be below average for a starting QB. Some QB's like Favre still make many mistakes because their brain is less than optimal ... not because they suck.
All I am worried about is can he make all the throws? If he can throw the sideline routes and some of the longer routes I won't be worried at all ... the team will pick up the Brady loss in other areas in all 3 phases of the game.
Brady didn't throw and interception until his 6th game in 2001. How can we compare Cassel to Brady and Manning? yikes
I do agree he will screw up at some point. I mean it's a long season. I dont think he will key in on Moss like Brady has. Brady was going for the record last year, there was no doubt about that. Cassel just wants to win games. Hopefully he can execute.

How? By telling the whole story. Brady didn't throw a TD pass until his fourth game. Cassel threw one his first. (I include the game that Cassel stepped into for this stat because you included the game that Brady stepped into.)
This just shows how stupid these comparisons are.
Comparing Brady/Cassel is pointless, but you shouldn't have to cherry-pick stats to make Brady look good.
The basic point of the thread is that people should not expect anything too high for Matt, and from the looks of this board, people expect him to be above average. (Or, more accurately, peoples STANDARD of average is distorted because of Brady)
I am merely pointing out that people should EXPECT significantly more "screw-ups" than Brady (and I'm not saying its his fault, I clearly point out that this is to be expected of any new QB).
Frankly, I can see him losing a string of games and performing poorly and everyone on this board screaming for his head. I don't think you can deny that.
I agree with all your points you make, especially how the 'standard of average is distorted because of TB'. But why keep the title of this thread so negative as if MC is doomed to screw up??
