Default Can we consolidate some "What if Brady is badly hurt" discussion?

The early evidence re Matt Cassell suggests that he:

  • Makes pretty good decisions (but not like Brady)
  • Throws the ball pretty accurately (but not like Brady)
  • Can throw a deep ball (but perhaps not like Brady)
  • Runs OK when he needs to (better than Brady)
  • Has the support of his teammates
  • Telegraphs his throws too much, leading to INT opportunities (very unlike Brady)

In addition, the Pats have:

  • The best set of WRs in the league, or else very close to that
  • A set of capable but not game-changing RBs
  • A set of capable but not game-changing WRs
  • An OL that is returning three Pro Bowlers
  • The best DL + OLBs in the game, or else very close to that
  • A set of past-their-prime studs, not-yet-prime studs, and in-their-prime JAGs at ILB, safety, and CB
  • A mixed bag on STs
  • A heckuva coaching staff

Why would anybody forecast a losing season for such a team?

We can and will still win the Superbowl with Matt Cassel as our QB. I have no doubt.

If anything this will be a fun year as we completely blow people's minds and piss them off even more. We are dead and buried to the rest of the NFL, I can't wait to see the shock on their faces when we still win.

Consider "if" and the big horrible "if" Brady is out for the season on speculation to this point, it takes the pressure off the Pats, as the team will be seen as good but not outstanding anymore. Public perception becomes the Pats can't win without Tom Brady, journalists ease up and turn their attention to Dallas, Colts, Steelers etc.

This is a wonderful opportunity for the Defense to show up this season. Every hope in the world is pleaing for a minor knee injury, however it gives our front 7 a chance to solidify and make some game winning plays.

It's not all doom and gloom, it's just a minor hiccup on the road.
