Anthony Alridge tore a ligament in his left foot during the Broncos' preseason finale. He was placed on injured reserve, ending his season.

This came out of nowhere; he never appeared to be hurt in the game. Michael Pittman is now locked in as Denver's third-string tailback behind starter Selvin Young and Andre Hall, with Ryan Torain (arm) still on the roster. Alridge will likely face an uphill battle to make the team again in 2009.
I watched this game on NFL Network last night and saw this guy carry 23 times for 110 yds and make 2 catches for 13 yds and he played the entire game and seemed healthy walking off the field at the end of the game. They actually interviewed him after the game. Hhhhmmmm....UDFA from Houston who would have surely been claimed as a developmental guy if he was waived.

I've always thought that there was, although it occured more often in the past. As far as Alridge is concerned http://www.nfl.com/players/anthonyal...e?id=ALR296636, he is small at 5-9 & 185, maybe he adds some weight and strength before next season and they can see what they have then. Denver always seems to find diamond in the rough runningbacks.

I've always wondered how much of that is due to their SOL* which is known for their chop blocking of defensive linemen.

Their SOL does produce some decent fantasy football players......

I doubt thats the case. If you want to stash people on IR, the two downsides are that they still count against your cap (no big deal for min salary guys); but they also are losing a year of development since they won't be allowed to practice with the team; and I doubt a player himself would agree to that since it would hurt their future income potential

Thank you and here we go again.

The biggest problem is that the IR'd player who thinks he won't pass waivers (and most players have confidence in themselves) knows he's missing a chance to get on a real NFL roster for minimum pay. NFL minimum pay, as we all know, puts you in the top tax bracket.

If it's not possible for a player to file a grievance over this issue, it should be.
