Default Players to watch for this season

David Carr, Darcy Johnson, Kyle Boller , Luke Mcown, Michael Bennett, Kevin Kolb, Michael Gasperson ... aw heck. I'd say anyone playing the patriots first string defense this season.

Oh, I forgot, its preseason, it doesn't mean anything . nevermind

That is correct.

yep. Patriots have not scored a touchdown in the first half of four preseason games. It's all good baby...just preseason. Means nothing. they probably didn't want to score anyway

The 49ers, Bears, Texans and Lions are all in the top 10 pre-season offenses this year.

We should probably switch rosters with one of those teams, since the pre-season is indicative of how the regular season will turn out.

I'm game...

Seriously, it's preseason folks. Means absolutely nothing. All we've learned here is Cassell stinks. But this shouldn't have been news in the first place.

Awwww. OMG. Are you kidding me?? Who cares. It looked to me that the Pats let the QB have a lot of responsibility this preseason so they could see what they have. Now they know a lot more than going into the preseason. From the looks of it O'Connell progressed from game 1 to game 4, so did Gutierrez a bit but Cassel regressed beause he was afraid to make a mistake-you can't play QB like that. O'Connell made a nice change at the LOS today for his first TD pass, a run was originally called and he changed it to a pass. Gutz would have had a TD as well if Chad Jack didn't fall right before the half, it looked like a nice pass.

From BB, on the QB's, as I said: http://www.boston.com/sports/footbal...lichick_6.html

Quote:
Did O'Connell check off on the touchdown pass to Chad Jackson?
"Yeah, we had an option on the play based on the look that they gave us, and Kevin did a nice job on that. He got us into a good play. Most importantly he made a good throw and Chad ran a good route. He stacked the corner, and Kevin threw it up there and gave him a chance to get it. Just [needed] a few more like that."

Was playing Tom a consideration tonight or are you just pointing towards the opening of the season, kind of a la Randy last year?
"I think really we wanted to see Matt [Cassel] play, and Tom wouldn't have played very much in this game anyway. We wanted to see how Matt played, and we wanted to see how [Gutierrez] and Kevin play, and that's what we got."

Gutz was playing against 2's and 3's, and he threw a pick to a defender who couldn't quite corral it... he couldn't move the offense at all until the 4th quarter when the Giants were gameplanning for week one. He was lousy in week 2, got hurt being sacked and couldn't play in week 3. O'Connell is a rookie playing against burger flippers... Honestly some of you must watch alternate feeds, if you watch at all...

OConnell will not see the field this season, ergo he cannot be a #2. Gutierrez made a few plays (and a lot of mistakes) against backups. Ergo he can't be a #2 either. Casssel is no HOF'er, but he wins by default. They could sign a veteran but he couldn't be the #2 either since he wouldn' have a clue about this offense. So if any of them are your players to watch this season, don't hold your breath.

Jeez...

Do you remember in 2005 when after being peppered with questions about his rookie QB Bill quipped at his PC that Cassel did a nice job but it was a little early to start carving his HOF bust (because the fans and media were convinced he was Brady 2 (only more athletic and he could really scramble). I have to think some of you weren't watching back in the olden days...

Fans love to see a QB scramble or pull plays out of his ass. The Favre phenomenon. Disciplined HC's like Bill actually cringe. Cassel can still run - he's simple been conditioned not to - particularly in preseason when they are trying to test plays and players, not salvage wins. It's not what we do here. Remember the last thing Charlie admonished Tom before that fateful drive in 2002? Be careful with the football...

OK, it means 16-0 was a fluke, and that the preseason Patriots are the real Patriots.

Are you satisfied now?

Who said any of these guys were my players to watch, I'm just saying I saw an improvement in these players from Week 1 till now-that's it. They were playing vs guys who are on their level, 2nd and 3rd stringers and they did that from Week 1 of the preseason till now and they showed improvement. I never said O'Connell would be the #2.

Don't ever say I don't watch these games and don't know what I'm talking about my friend because I've played this game and coached it. I don't make disparaging remarks about other board members football knowledge and I would appreciate it if you didn't either.
