Here's the key thing about GRONK off the field: he's a child at heart in a body Superman would kill for.

Yes, he makes some incredibly stupid decisions sometimes. But at no point can you really look at what he does and say "What an ass****." "What a buffoon," sure, but not "What an ass****."

I think the Patriots might be concerned about the *volume* of his off-field activities, but not the activities themselves.

Couldn't agree with you more. If the other nonsense had never happened, my guess is he's still doing the Oscars. Of course, I then wonder if the other nonsense had never happened, would Academy have asked him to do tomorrow night's gig?

All people can do is speculate about why he is no longer doing the Oscars. Unless you know him personally or have an article that confirms what happened, all people are doing is speculating.

You seem so sure with zero facts to back up your bold statement.

Yeah, I think this has as much to do with toning down the level of antics. Sure, it's the off season but aside from Brady (who kind of can't escape it nowadays but caught on early to the need to manage or limit it) this team hasn't had a star the media focused on on or off the field. Guys were encouraged to keep the focus on team even in the off season and keep their personal image humble and relatively low key. At some point Gronk may become the face of the franchise for a time as the QB position transitions. They don't want that face to be the image of a frat boy who never grew up, however harmless the antics may (or ultimately may not) be. Even had that discussion with Drew back in the day (mosh pit). And Brady during his brief Tara reid period. Being a leader here often involves personal sacrifice, off as well as on the field. Setting a tone that may not be in your own comfort zone but doing so because it's what is best for the team. Ultimately they want guys who have that whatever it takes mentality, even if what it takes is toning down your personal lifestyle.

I don't think it was the Oscars that invited him per se; it was Rich Eisen and NFLN.

My mistake. Yoiu're right. But, I still think some prior events influenced their decision to invite him.

Really? What would be their recourse if he refused to 'obey their orders'?

Fact is, if its not in the contract, then what goes on in the offseason is irrelevant as long as he's not breaking the law.

It's not a prison

You don't have the slightest idea how professional sports organizations are run. You remind me of one of those who think that "no one can tell me what to do because I have rights, goddam it." You're clueless about how the real world works.
