As in the title. Why? Lloyd had over 900 yards this year. He has a low cap hit compared to a lot of other receivers. People are talking like he is our worst receiver. I just don't get it. Is it because he doesn't get good yac? People seem to think that he sucks.
Because since last Sunday, they think everyone on the team sucks, and cutting them isn't enough - bring on the firing squad.

I think, Rob, that peoples hate for Lloyd stem from his perceived lack of effort.
Which is silly. Just get the damn first down - and Lloyd does it.
It is also a media thing. Troy Brown doesn't like him because he thinks he is soft (which a common theme with Troy and WRs he perceives as soft). Dennis and Callahan spread the misperception that Brady and Belichick were phasing him out because he went one game with one catch. A lot of other media guys have been killing him because of the perception of what he was supposed to do.
Not saying that if Edelman put up the same numbers as Lloyd, Lloyd and Edelman would provide the same value to the team in terms of everything including special teams. I am saying that Edelman put up the same numbers as Lloyd, many of the same people who are trashing Lloyd for their production would be saying Edelman proved that he is good enough to replace Welker's production on offense.
74 catches, for 911 yards, and 4 TDs is very respectable numbers for a #2 WR in an offense with Gronk and Hernandez and a strong running game. The perception by many is that Lloyd is garbage. I am saying that if Edelman had the same numbers, people including the people who think Lloyd is garbage would be calling Edelman an emerging star.
For the most part, I agree.
However, regarding the "emerging star", there would be a reason to call Edelman that if he had Lloyd's numbers, while there isn't for Lloyd.
Lloyd turns 32 this year and is now entering his 11th season as an NFL WR. He played 4 years of HS and 4 years of Big-Ten College football as a WR.
Edelman is 26 and never played WR until he arrived in Foxboro less than 4 years ago. When he walked into Gillette for the first time, he had more experience as a punter than as a WR.
Edelman still has not scratched the surface of his potential. We're still 2-3 seasons away from seeing Edelman's prime. We all pretty much know Lloyd's maximum ceiling.
If Edelman somehow would have had 74 catches for 911 yards this season, I'd expect 90 REC and 1,200 YDS next (as a fulltime WR with Demps taking the KR and PR duties). I don't have those expectations of Lloyd. However, as I wrote before, I am more than happy with Lloyd as Branch's upgrade.

If Edelman had 74 catches for 911 yards this season, I'd expect 120 REC and 1,400 YDS next. I don't have those expectations of lloyd. However, as I wrote before, I am more than happy with Lloyd as Branch's upgrade.
Although age factors into it, I don't know if Edelman, even if he put up those numbers, would necessarily make the next step jump.
My point is still perceptions vs. the reality of the situation.
Lloyd always seems to be falling over while he catches the ball. Rarely does he catch the ball and stay on his feet. I've noticed that more and more myself, but the fact remains that he is still an effective receiver.
.
Lmao wow that's very true now that I think of it

Lloyd has zero play making ability after the catch proven by his 105th ranking in regular season YAC and his total of 6 YAC in the post season.
The Lloyd conundrum is....should he be a three down player. I argue an every down skill player should have some skill to get yards on his own. Lloyd doesn't. He is a classic #3 WR built for 3rd downs, no more. Lloyd has proven inadequate at any other role beyond mid sideline patterns. Lloyd is a one trick pony and his presence limits the explosiveness of the offense. Thanks to Lloyd, Wes Welker is your deep threat....that says it all doesn't it.

Ok I will.
Lloyd is a finesse pass catcher afraid to go over the middle to make the tough catch. Is this the kind of player championship teams lean on. The also-rans of the league have rosters filled with one dimensional players, solid at their one skill set. It's just a surprise that BB, a coach who values multidimensional players, is content that his #2 starting WR can only run sideline curls. Guess MCDaniels only needs to scheme for the other 10 O starters because Lloyd's pattern is a given.
Lloyd is here to stay, I get that, but this offense needs a fundamental philosophy change that includes a WR capable of exploring a vast portion of the field, not just a 5 yard radius. Lloyd is your classic 3rd down WR.
