Default What is Welker's ask/worth?

Well, if this is any indication, any contract extension would be in the 7-9 mill range.

If guys like Hartline are getting this much, I don't see the Pats being active in the free agent market and fully expect them to take the draft route for a WR.

Quote:
Free agent Brian Hartline is expected to seek a contract paying him $5-6 million annually this offseason.
Jordy Nelson, the receiver to whom Hartline was optimistically compared entering the 2012 season, only makes $3.5 million annually. The Dolphins want to re-sign Hartline for 2013, but it doesn't sound like they'll get a hometown discount. Hartline, 26, is coming off career highs in catches (74) and yards (1,083). Jan 25 - 1:13 PM

hartlines contract has no bearing on welkers IMO..some team could come in and pay hartline 7-8 mill a year and overpay just becasue of 1 year

But welker will be 9-10 i would think. Near end of career and once football is gone...he's got nothing..don't blame him for wanting good $$..after all he has earned it

I'd expect that Welker's asking for a minimum of $9M a year.

As for what he's worth... I'll refrain from opening that can of worms here.

Why does everyone always compare white receivers? Brian Hartline is just like... Jordy Nelson. Really?

WWWiW (What Wes Welker is Worth) depends on the team. To a team with a ton of cap room like the Bengals or Browns he's worth more than to the Patriots who have a lot of other intermediate receiving options and usually don't give out huge contacts to guy who are Wes's age.

Teams with a history of underperforming usually pay more for free agents.

I think fans and many mediots have long overstated what they think Welker wanted. Bedard said the other day that when they almost got it done the end of July the sticking point was the backend of a 4 or 5 year deal averaging in the $8-9M per range and the signing bonus Welker wanted being in the $19M range. For perspective the top WR's in the league make in the $16M per range. While the top LG, NT and LB got what Wes was asking for and none of them has had quite the consistent impact he has since the day he arrived here.

The thing with Welker for me is more about the duration of the contract and guaranteed money. I'd have no problem paying him $10m next year but I would not want to do that in 2014, 2015, etc.

Lmao exactly. Whenever I see Welker mentioned, I see one of the following mentioned as well: Amendola, Hartline, or Nelson. It's annoying

Nelson and Hartline screwed everything up. It used to be as simple as lumping all of the white receivers together. Now there are the short white receivers and the tall white receivers!

If it were based on production alone Welker's contract would be close to Megatron's and Fitzgerald's than Jordy Nelson's.
