After 13 seasons in the National Football League, veteran cornerback Jason McCourty announced his retirement this past Friday.

McCourty revealed his decision over Instagram with a video address featuring his children looking back on his career.

“These past 13 seasons have been one hell of a journey,” Jason McCourty said on Instagram. “And as I reflect and look back on my career, I have far surpassed any and every expectation I set for myself back in 2009 — and that’s what I’m most proud of when I look back at my career.”

A sixth-round draft pick by the Tennessee Titans out of Rutgers University, McCourty played his first eight seasons in Nashville before finishing his career with the Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots, and Miami Dolphins.

During his three-year stint in New England, McCourty played alongside his twin-brother Devin and made a memorable pass break up of what initially appeared to be an easy, wide-open touchdown for Brandin Cooks of the Los Angeles Rams during Super Bowl LIII.

His efforts in the contest helped the Patriots win their sixth Super Bowl title and the first of his career.

Overall, McCourty played 173 regular-season games, logging 18 interceptions, nine forced fumbles, and four total touchdowns. He was named a team captain five times.

In addition to the retirement announcement, Jason shared another video on Sunday featuring ex-teammates congratulating him and reflecting upon the impact he had on their own careers.

According to a recent report from the New York Post, McCourty has emerged as a front-runner to replace Nate Burleson’s vacant role on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” program as he looks to begin a new career in media.
