On Wednesday, The New England Patriots provided more information regarding fan attendance at Gillette Stadium for the start of the 2020 season.

After consulting with the Massachusetts Reopening Advisory Board this week, the team announced that their first two home games, Sep. 13 against the Miami Dolphins and Sep. 27 against the Oakland Raiders, will be played in front of no fans.

You can read some of the Gillette Stadium statement below:

“Following consultation with the Massachusetts Reopening Advisory Board, Gillette Stadium officials learned today that we will not be permitted to host fans at any events through at least the end of September. As a result, the Patriots home opener on September 13 and the game on September 27, as well as the next three Revolution home matches on August 20, 29 and September 2, will be played without fans in attendance. We will communicate directly with our respective ticket holders regarding refunds.”

On Instagram following the news, wide receiver Julian Edelman wrote a special message addressing any disappointed Patriots fans.

“Pats Nation, with the news yesterday, I can see why some of you are disappointed and frustrated,” Edelman wrote. “Without a doubt it’s going to be different this September without every single one of you cheering us on. But don’t you worry… we’ll be right here when you get back.”

Whether or not Gillette Stadium hosts any fans at all in 2020 beyond September remains unknown at this time.

Pats have no covid cases among team members. They have done a great job. They should be given the chance to safely admit fans—I think that they would be successful.
