All of a sudden no quarterback seems secure this offseason and, apparently, it looks like you can add the Seahawks’ Russell Wilson to that mix.

The veteran QB appears to be growing frustrated with the number of hits he’s taken in recent years, with Wilson having been sacked 47 times in 2020,  which was 3rd-most in the NFL.  The only quarterbacks who were sacked more were Houston’s Deshaun Watson (49) and Philadelphia’s Carson Wentz (50).

But that’s not a new trend.  Wilson was tied for first with Atlanta’s Matt Ryan and Arizona’s Kyler Murray with 48 sacks in 2019, he was tied for 3rd in sacks with 51 with Derek Carr in 2018, and was 4th in sacks with 43 in 2017.

As a result, he told Sports Radio KJR on Tuesday that he’s “frustrated with getting hit too much”.

Wilson also recently spoke to Dan Patrick about whether or not he’s available in a trade, with Wilson saying he really wasn’t sure.

“I definitely believe they’ve gotten calls, for sure,” Wilson told Patrick.  “I think that any time you’re a player that tries to produce every week and has done it consistently, I think people are going to call for sure. I think it’s part of the process.”

“I’m not sure if I’m available or not, that’s a Seahawks question,” said Wilson.  “I think more than anything else, at the end of the day, you want to win.  You play this game every day to wake up to win.  You play this game to be the best in the world.  You know what I hate?  I hate watching other guys play in the game.  There’s nothing worse.”

Whether or not the Seahawks will even entertain offers for their franchise quarterback remains to be seen, but Wilson’s former teammate, Brandon Marshall, believes that Wilson is at the point where he would like to get a fresh start somewhere else.

“Russell Wilson is beyond frustrated,” he said on First Things First on Tuesday. “I think Russell Wilson is trying to figure out how to move on in a classy way. That’s what I truly believe.  Russ is a guy that’s not concerned about ‘How you think about me’ and ‘What do you think about me’, He’s really concerned about ‘What type of legacy do I leave behind?’  He’s trying to leave the legacy that he did things the right way so other guys can follow that same blueprint. So I think he struggles with how to move on in a classy way, in a way where people can look at him and say, you know what, he still did it the right way.  Because that’s important for Russ.”

It would be hard to imagine Wilson playing anywhere but in Seattle.  However, after watching what Tom Brady accomplished on Sunday night, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that veteran quarterbacks who might not be happy in their current situations may be seeing things a little differently these days.  That could make quarterbacks like Wilson and others a little more likely to start pondering life outside of their current franchises, which as crazy as it might sound, no longer make these scenarios as far-fetched as they once seemed.
