Former Patriots DL Ty Warren tears triceps; career likely over

Former Patriot defensive lineman Ty Warren tore his right triceps in Denver's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday night. This is the third consecutive year that Warren has had an early season-ending injury. Between that negative health history and the fact that Warren is now 31 years old I would have to think that at this point Warren's NFL career is most likely over.

Warren missed the 2010 season with the Patriots when he had hip surgery in August. Some felt that he should have had the procedure done much earlier that year, the same off season in which he raised some eyebrows by returning to college to get his degree rather than participate in the Pats off season training activities. Warren was released by the Pats the following July and picked up by Denver. He then tore his triceps during a Broncos training camp practice to again go on injured reserve; the Broncos are expected to place him on IR again in the very near future.

Warren was a standout at Texas A&M and was drafted by the Patriots in the first round in 2003. He was the starting left defensive end with the Pats for six years, part of a formidable defensive line along with RDE Richard Seymour and NT Vince Wilfork. He played in 106 regular season games (with 92 starts) and sixteen playoff games (with 11 starts) while he was with the Patriots. During that time Warren had 259 tackles, 120 assists, 21.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, seven passes defensed and one safety.

On today's date in 1991 Nirvana released "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Three days later Geffen Records held a party to launch the single; the band was thrown out of their own party after starting a food fight.
