NFL Pro Days Schedule

Some people think the NFL Combine has become an overvalued, overly hyped exercise. Some people think the whole college bowl game situation has become bloated and out of control. But I can't help but begin to wonder if neither approaches the latest excess in an attempt to grab some attention: a whopping 162 colleges and universities will hold an NFL Pro Day over the next five weeks.

At some point we passed the point of this many Pro Days being useful, and arrived in the land of counterproductive excess. BC and UConn having their own Pro Day, I can understand that. But Clark, Brown, Rhode Island, UNH, Dartmouth and Maine each having their own Pro Day too? Seriously?

Cal, yes; Cal (PA) and Cal Lutheran, no. Arkansas, yes; Arkansas-Monticello, Central Arkansas and Arkansas State, no.

Is there some reason why players from Florida International, Florida Atlantic and Bethune-Cookman couldn't simply attend the nearby University of Miami Pro Day? If the Hurricanes don't want to share, or it's determined that they have so many prospects of their own that inviting others wouldn't work, then wouldn't it make more sense for those other schools to just have one joint session? I'm guessing they'd probably get more scouts to attend that kind of a unified workout session than the combined number of scouts that go to see those three individual Pro Days.

Same holds true for many other schools, such as Youngstown State and Ohio, who have their Pro Days on the same date. How many teams are going to want to send somebody to the Tusculum Pro Day?

Here is the current 2012 NFL Pro Day schedule.
