Per multiple reports (we could start listing them but then we’ll leave someone out and we’d inevitably get an e-mail about it), the NFL has fined each guy $25,000, with no suspension for either player.
So, it's better for the wallet to let the "defenseless" guy catch the pass and then throw a few punches at him after the play than it is to hit him with your helmet during the play.
I'm sure the players will be taking note of this moving forward.

The next CBA should have set fines for breaking specific rules. These things should be outlined clearly the next time around so people aren't taken aback every time there is a fine handed out. Of course it's impossible to outline a fine for every single rule, but rules that are commonly broken there should be at least a set range of dollars that the players, owners, and the league can agree on. Maybe this is already in place?
That or there should be some sort of separation of powers, hate to agree with Polamalu...

From a legalistic sporting point of view, sure there should have been bigger fines and probably a suspension thrown in.
But from a personal point of view, Andre should get a medal for doing what every other player in the league wanted to do. Finnegan is a little ***** who got what he deserved. Andre landed some sweet punches.

i.e. we don't want such a big fine that people will start looking into Fisher's instruction on these matters...everything is fine...nothing to see here.
Oh look....spygate stuff!

This genius move was followed by trading out of a spot where they could have gotten the last decent receiver in Robert Ferguson and settled for tackle Matt Light, who will not help any time soon.”
That's horrible. Was Meriweather's hit on Heap even close to this whole fight as far as breaking rules goes? Because he got as big of a fine as the two of them together. I don't get it.

I run by the theory that two heavily padded dudes wrestling together and getting a couple of quick shots in before 20 players and at least four referees jump in to break it up is no hanging offense. Toss 'em, fine 'em up good, and move on.
On the other hand, dangerous and illegal hits on the field can end careers. See Jack Tatum on Darryl Stingley, which would most certainly be a personal foul as a helmet-to-helmet hit against a defenseless receiver in today's NFL, but went down in the books as an incomplete pass. Fights are small potatoes.
