Default OT: Browns place Quinn on IR after no apparent injury

Brady Quinn's season is over | ProFootballTalk.com

This one is interesting. I remember watching the NFL Network yesterday, and supposedly these last two games were going to be an audition for Quinn for next season. More Mangini shenanigans?

If you haven't heard, Mangini practiced them for 3 1/2 hours in pads last week:

Seems he pulled his hammy in the 4th quarter according to the comments. If he won't be able to play for a week or two might as well IR him and fill the roster spot on a team going nowhere. Maybe Holmgren also wants him no worse off than a pulled hammy in case he can flip him to Josh or whichever team hires Charlie next month...

I think Quinn got off on the wrong foot in Cleveland, some of which was clearly his own fault but much of which was well beyond individual player control. Will be interesting to see if he can be salvaged of if he's just too damaged at this point.

I think that he would have been worth more in trade if he had been made inactive for the last two weeks of the season. His injuries might have been perceived to be less severe.

That makes no sense. Use the roster spot. Besides the alternative appears to be a benching, which would do the opposite of increasing his value. I'm sure anyone who is interested will know the extent of the injury and that's a lot easier to ascertain than why he was seemingly benched instead of showcased. This eliminates that discussion while also giving them one last chance to evaluate the remaining roster candidates and probably insures they remain near the top of the draft order in the hunt for replacement QB's. There will be half a dozen teams in that hunt.
