Suggs urges teammates Bart Scott and Ray Lewis to take paycuts to stay with the team
Heard this on ESPN that Suggs will be asking his fellow players and fellow FAs in 2009,Ray Lewis and Bart Scott to be open to taking pay cuts for the good of the team and to keep that defense together in what may be another Super Bowl run next season.
Looks like Suggs who will probably be franchised wants his buddies who won't be franchised to stick around and play for less money - How generous he is
I doubt they will take a paycut although I think of the two between Lewis and Scott who wont be franchised, Lewis seems more likely to stay in Baltimore at similar dollars he earned this year than Bart Scott who will probably go elsewhere if they don't make him a big proposal in regards to his salary.

Thats true, but I think the missing link to them not having been a dymamic team this decade is that fact that they were not able to put a quality QB at the helm and that hurt them all those years
Now with what appears to be a diamond in the rough in Joe Flacco, they seem primed to making a big move towards elite status if in fact Flacco's rookie campaign was genuine
IMO Flacco is going to be a star in this league,he looks more poised to becoming the next top class of QBs heading into the next decade,Matt Ryan and Flacco could be the next generations version of Brady & Manning if their rookie seasons are any type of small indication for things to come.

Most Pats fans want Suggs to come over here and play for less money than he can get anywhere else. How generous is Suggs? About as generous as we are, I'd say.
If Suggs is franchised, I've love to see how Ray Lewis would do in this defensive system. He may be up there is age but the guy still gives 100% on every play and he can still hit like a truck.

Personally in FA of the most importance,I want the Pats to look for a pass rusher which has been missing on this defense for quite a while - Ray Lewis is a future HOFer but I don't think pass rushing is his forte,He is a Rodney type guy who will hit you like a brick but does not excell at pressure on the QB which is really what we need and our front 3 are not designed for that nor are they very good at it on a regular basis especially against the better team's OLs
We probably could have won the AFC in 2005,2006 and the Super Bowl in 2007 if we simply had constant pressure on the QB when it counted in big games - We didn't and thats a good part of the reason why this team is on a bit of a drought when it comes to winning a championship

PA, we held the Giants to 3 points entering the final period in last year's Super Bowl. In '05, injuries tore through our defense like a hot knife through butter. Almost as bad as this season. Then we shut out the Bucs and were rolling from there until we unfortunately had to play the Broncos who had our number at the time and whose defense was actually really good. 2006, we went to the Championship for two reasons: Brady and our defense. So the D hadn't been the problem up until last year.
However, I will agree that a pass rushing ILB should be one of our top priorities in the offseason. I would just love to see Lewis in a Pats uniform before he calls it a career.

A slightly better pass rush on that miracle pass to Tyree would probably have gotten to Eli even if there was some holding involved there
In the 2006 AFCCG Manning had all day to throw the ball in the 2nd half sending Indy to the big comeback,A better pass rush then would have sealed the deal as well

The pass rush did get to Eli on that ungodly play. Eli got out of A.D.'s grip and threw that miracle. The '06 AFCCG I've blocked out of my head up until now because that was a painful loss. But if I can remember correctly, Manning had started exposing the middle of the field badly which could have been why the pass rush dropped off. I'm sure someone more familiar with that game than I am can confirm/deny.

Wasn't Suggs franchised last year?
Pt being that I thought you can't franchise players 2 years in a row.
BTW-Rex Ryan is THE HUGE loss for them.
