I actually think this will make our lives tougher...great defensive mind. Time will tell. ESPN has the story.

On the other hand, his old man was a much better coordinator than he was a head coach. Maybe we'll see a chip off the old block.

I thought that Ryan was hired by Mangini to be his DC?

I am surprised that the Jets didn't try and hire Gruden.

As for Ryan being better or worse than Mangini, we'll just have to see what happens.

This is the twin from the Ravens as opposed to the twin from the Raiders.

Unless Ray Lewis and Ed Reed are signing on with the Jets......I am not worried. I think he has benefited from the personal that he has had.

Lets all hope he has Brett Farve at the controls in 2009.

Ryan is a terrific defensive mind and was a great DC, with a much better track record than Mangini. Whether or not he turns out to be a good HC remains to be seen. Dick LeBeau is probably the best DC since Belichick, and he was a lousy HC with the Bengals.

Even if Ryan turns out to be a good HC, the Jets are a dysfunctional organization. Dysfunctional in the sense that they have not been able to maintain a consistent system or set of values, and in the sense that the owner and GM have made moves independent of the coaching staff (such as trading for Favre). Those are generally not the hallmark of top franchises. Franchises which maintain a consistent system and set of values and stick to it from the top down, and let good football people make the decisions - such as the Pats, Steelers, Colts, Chargers, and NY Giants - tend to be more successful in the long run. Ryan could turn out to be brilliant and still be sabotaged by Woody and Tannenbaum.

Forgot to add, but the Jets may also find themselves in serious salary cap trouble, depending on what happens with 2010. They have overspent significantly on some FAs and executed some really sloppy contracts, which may come back to bite them - they've been acting like they're the NY Yankees in a league which has a salary cap instead of a luxury tax. So Ryan may find himself in an awkward situation a year or two down the road, and end up being made the scapegoat for it.

Ryan just reminds me of a buffoon. Not as much as his brother, but still a buffoon. And yes, I realize he has done a very good job with the Ravens defense...but so didn't Marvin Lewis. And how is he working out?
