Default Dan Snyder and Washington Redskins considering nuclear option to restore cap space

Redskins considering nuclear option to restore cap space | ProFootballTalk

Redskins are spreading the word that they are planning on taking legal action against the league which would DELAY the start of Free Agency.

The Redskins should have thought about the situation more clearly when they decided to go against the Gentlemen's Agreement a few seasons back.

Default Semi-OT:Redskins considering nuclear option to restore cap space

How much cap space did the Skins dump compared to everyone else? Was there an unwritten # that they crossed?

Snyder had no problem colluding against the players, but he's pissed off because the teams' collusion is now being used against him.

They really didn't think the league was going to come down on them like they did last year. It really hampered their FA spending. They are an up and coming team that feels they are a few key upgrades away from being a serious contender.
This is a power play to squeeze out of a second year of severe cap restrictions.
The timing is likely in retaliation for the league hitting them with the cap sanctions on the verge of last year's FA market.

Maybe the Redskins should sue themselves for giving Albert Haynesworth that ridiculous contract during the uncapped year. The league should argue in court that the Redskins weren't penalized for spending so much during the uncapped year, but because they spend so much so foolishly during the uncapped year.

The REDSKINS are an "up and coming team"??????

Please.

They are a mess.

They have no first round picks until 2015 - - they used them up on a QB whom they just ruined.

Let's see now.......no cap space.....no first round picks until 2015..... You do the math.

Snyder's only hope not to further embarrass himself is to sue the NFL into nonexistence.

Not taking any sides here, but if it is called an UNCAPPED year... why would you be punished for spending too much in that year? That's very unintuitive.

Not at all upset that Washington/Dallas are getting the shaft, but they kind of have a right to complain for spending 'transgressions' committed in an 'uncapped' year. Did Goodell go over the line or is he just the mouthpiece of the other 30 owners with his ruling?

The Redskins are basically screwed and they probably know it. That's what happens when you trade the farm for a single player who you then allow to play on a torn ACL. Barring a series of draft hits (which, let's be honest, isn't going to happen with their FO), they're looking like they've already peaked as a borderline playoff team, since they lack both draft picks and cap space going forward, and they don't have a lot of young, healthy, highly talented players.

They need their cap space back because improving via the draft isn't a likely option. The real question, IMO, is why a team that knew it had no cap space to be a FA player for several years would then go and trade all of its draft picks away. Just poor management.
