Those traitorous New Yorkers. I think we need to throw The Empire State out of New England.
I weep tears for the whatever educational system produced you. Here's a clue. New York is not now, nor ever has been part of "New England".
But thanks anyway, I got a chuckle out of your post and pray to God, you were only kidding

In the final analysis the Pats are ranked about 4th in popularity.
I think they will have Pitt Dallas status by the end of this decade with their continued success especially if we can get over the top with a few more SB wins.
In Toms last year he will get the respect he deserves nationally.

That blue mark in Southwest Connecticut is Fairfield County (the wealthiest in the nation, btw). I grew up there in the 70's and can't tell you how alone I was as a Pats fan. I'd get noogied to death in junior high whenever I'd wear my Sears Roebuck Stave Grogan jersey to school. My telling the bullies that they actually lived in New England and they're jerks for smacking a kid sporting their home team's jersey did no good. It's in vain. Fairfield County is a suburb of New York City, located a mere 39 miles from the city limits.
In the 70's, the Connecticut kids wore their Sears Roebuck Steelers, Dolphins, Raiders, & Cowboys jerseys. Nobody wanted a Patriots one.
And if this map was showing the dispersion from BEFORE 2001, before all the Pats deep playoff runs, well then, the ENTIRE state of Connecticut would be solid blue.
Even today, I'd say there's more people who root for either the Giants, the Jets, or another team from elsewhere, than there are people who support the Pats. All the media is from New York. When people wanna party or sight-see, they go to New York. Once you get past the last stop on NYC commuter railroad in New Haven, everything east & north of there is kinda no-man's land anyway. It's "New Haven and all points west". Few people have any ties to Boston there.

Good one crew. The article writer is truly a moron.

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.
This is known as "bad luck." RAH

I take it you're asking what fans, not what geographic region. That's purple there in the majority of Nevada and Western Utah...yes, it's Cowgirls. Even in Eastern Oregon, majority of Idaho, Montana, and all the way to Southern Virgina.

I think of it as Hartford county and northeast is patriot territory and new haven and southwest NY team of the week

The Patriots have been overachievers the past two years. It doesn't have the talent to compensate for injuries, and it wins so much because it puts in 99% effort in the regular season and plays with terrific schemes to mask its deficiencies.
But in the playoffs a good team at 99% will not beat emotional, talented teams that play at 100%. It's what happened against the Giants in 2011 and the Ravens in 2012.
Saw this interesting article that uses Facebook "likes" data to compute some measures of fan intensity and, more interestingly, to see where teams' fans are.
They divided the country into its US congressional districts and in each district used the FB data to see which team was most popular.
I think my favorite bit is that the Giants are more popular than the J-E-T-S in all but three NY congressional districts.
