Default Mgteich's first 3 rounds for patriots

#5 Chris Long (traded #69 to move up to #5 to get our man)
I expect Long, Gholston and Dorsey to be the top three in no particular order. Oakland should pick Ellis (although they could pick McFadden). At this point it is time to trade with KC and get Long. He won't there at #7.

#62 Godfrey (alternatives are Arvil and Lofton)

#69 traded

#94 traded for Shepherd
===================

So after the 3rd round (the Old Day One), I have a much better team. Actually after the real Day One since the Shepherd trade should announced by the end of Day One.

There is much to look for in the 4th -7th round long shots. I certainly want a blocking TE.

Sounds like a winner. Id love to see us add Long. Just dont see it happening because of the contract ramifications. Piloi and BB will have a hard time justifying paying that kid more money than just about any other player on the team. Let's hope he falls to 7.

This would be great. My only reservation is Godfey, who IMO is an NFL safety and not a cb, which is what I assume you are drafting him to be.

Yes, I am drafting him to be a corner. I certainly trust Belichick's evaluations of corners. Perhaps, I should just say "best available corner at 62".

My primary point is that we can get Long, Shepherd and a future potential starter at corner or nickel. We can expect no more out of the first three rounds.

Do you think the trade for Shepherd makes taking another cb at #62 redundant? I'm not necessarily saying that, I'm just curious what your thinking might be. Maybe a guard like Zuttah who could impact right away or a project OT might be an alternative.

I would love it, but I don't know how realistic it is.

Shephard for 94??

I'd rather have Avril at 62.

I really want to have four corners. Three gets lots of reps. A nickel back is almost a starter, and plays more reps than some starters. The #4 is the dime back and the backup should any of the three other corners be injured. Also, if he isn't quite ready for prime time and not ready to be the dime, he can be given a year to develop.

Besides Bryant is only signed through 2008, and Hobbs through 2009. Shepherd will be the only corner signed long term.

I don't want Bryant and Hobbs in a position to blackmail us next year.

If they pull off the trade for Shepherd then that changes my first round opinion.

I am still leaning heavily for Cason but if the do get Shepherd then I go to Rivers.

If they pull off the trade for Shepherd and sign him to a long extension, believe me Hobbs will be in NO position to blackmail the Pats. His salary would clearly be slotted as #2 corner money.

So assuming we have Long (pass rusher) and Shepherd (CB) in the fold, we should target an OT and a TE with our remaining/middle picks. JMO.

Nice looking dream. I think I'd rather have Ray Rice, Jordy Nelson, or Avril at 62, but that's a matter of taste.
