I think that if Vernon Gholston drops out of the top 4, meaning that the Raiders take Glenn Dorsey, I think the Pats and the Chiefs will make a trade, the Chiefs give up the 5th pick for the Pats 7th pick plus a fourth rounder. With the pick the Pats obviously select Vernon Gholston in front of the Jets. The Jets grab McFadden and the Chiefs still get the O-Lineman they prefer. Their is no reason why the Jets would take an O-Lineman, with the money spent in free agency(Faneca) and the resent drafting of a LT(Ferguson, D'Brickashaw), the Jets are no threat to take the Chiefs pick. And that is gonna be exactly why the Chiefs will be doing the trade even though the value favors New England. And the Pats do it because it is a great trade for them.

Re: OPINION: Pats and Chiefs Trade Scenerio:OPINION
There are so many threads about Gholston. I am not convinced that the Patriot's front office is as interested in him as the fans that post in various forums are.
Re: OPINION: Pats and Chiefs Trade Scenerio:OPINION
Call me crazy, but from what I've been reading, the Pats want a much more balanced attack this year, more emphasis on the ground game and back to 01-04 Patriot-basics. Enter Darren McFadden, just got this feeling he's going to end up being the pick whether it's at (5, 7, 8 or 9).

i wouldnt take Gholston in the top 10. 10-15 fine. Chris Long, Jake Long, McFadden are the only trade up material.

The value added by picking McFadden is practically zero (because you then have a fire sale on one of Maroney or Morris, whom you'd have to dump to make room for McFadden), especially given the cost of taking him.

What's to prevent the Jets from trading their #6 to someone wanting the Chiefs target?

Man, you're not afraid to go out on a limb, are you!?
A trade from 7 all the way to 5?
I think the Patriots have a few players they hope will be there for them at #7.
But if those players should be gone in the top 5, I don't expect they'll take the chance of letting the Jets grab someone they have targeted before them.
Effectively there is a scenario where everyone the Pats have worthy of being taken at #7 would be GONE by #7. Should the Pats see the draft heading in that direction I think they'd quickly make the move to trade up.
Now whether that's Gholston or someone else I'll leave to Belichick. I don't believe any NFL sources this time of the year. If BB thinks Gholston's a good player, as far as I'm concerned he is. If he passes on him then I'll know he's not a good fit.
It also wouldn't surprise me to see the Pats make a pick and trade him, rather than trading the pick (i.e. McFadden or Ryan). Nor would I rule out a three way trade.
Essentially anything can happen.

The Chiefs have enough needs that sticking at #5 for the BPA and getting an OT later is a realistic option. They could take Ellis at #5 and someone like Cherilus with their 2nd pick. Your scenario would work if the Chiefs value Clady much higher than the later OT options. However, I believe the Pats are looking to trade down, not up.
